Unbelievable.

Just cannot understand the law when things like this happen.

And from the article the arrogance of the man is clear "move because I'm not stopping".

Exactly. It is also worth noting that he wasn't even given the maximum fine for dangerous cycling which HAS been given in the past for people cycling on pavements etc and not hitting anyone nevermind killing someone.

**** knows how they come to make such rulings.

Just seems some crimes don't have proportionate punishments and I can't understand why.

Obviously because of over crowding in the prison system, they can't just imprison everyone, that said, they should review some of the petty crimes that people get time for, and focus more on imprisoning people like this guy. I mean ffs, he KILLED someone...and gets a fine?!

Just can't get my head around it

That's terrible. The poor girls family. The man who did this has to live with it for the rest of his life, i hope it haunts him everyday

Wasn't it proven that the path he was riding on had a clear way through the gang, only for the girl to step into the way at the last second?

I don't think it was proven

It was suggested but I believe could not be proven either way. I think that exactly what happened is irrelevent really once he has been found guilty of dangerous cycling. Her stepping into the small gap that he was trying to cycle through may have been a defence for them not finding him guilty but once found guilty he then only the facts should be looked at and they are they he is guilty of dangerous cycling which ultimately led to the death of a girl.

I'm afraid that this b.a.s.t.a.r.d would not see his 37th birthday. I would, without blinking a fooking eyelid, decapitate the get and pleasingly do the time.

RE: I don't think it was proven

I think the fact he said he wouldn't stop, and that even when he hit her he didn't brake, shows just how much he obviously didn't give a **** about what he was doing.

Like you say, once found guilty such issues shouldn't come into it. Sounds like absolutely no remorse either, and clearly he was never going to try and avoid the group

Maximum possible fine was £2500, he was fined ...

    £2200 + £700 costs.

No I'm not defending him. It's the law thats an ass.

Back in the day, it was a clip round the ear from the local bobby for riding on the pavement. Having said that the roads were much more quiet, especially around Rock Street where the nearest car was 35 miles away.

Heard about this on the radio on the way home, they said there was another old law from about 1861 they could have charged him with - driving a vehicle in a reckless manner, which has a maximum sentence of 2 years, but what I don't understand was why they couldn't just charge him with manslaughter.
