Alan Smith(not the player, the pundit)- 'England should recall Emile Heskey as we don't have a target man.' Peter Crouch???
Emile Heskey - Target man? ........... ...... for fecks sake, we are in the **** if that's the best tactic we've got
well playing Heskey is another issue altogether but was just pointing out that if we want to play that way big Pete is suspended
RE: suspended I know he's suspended but only for Israel game, so your going to bring Heskey in for one game, hmmmm.
personally I wouldn't bring Heskey in at all but as I've already said if we wanted to play that way we'd have to bring someone else in.
Yes, I know you were mate ............. ....... the problem is, if we are relying on lumping the ball up field onto the head of Heskey (or Crouch for that matter) it's all over for us ........ thought we'd done with those kind of tactics after the Mark Hateley era! It just doesn't work at International level, it might get you the odd goal here and there but it's not the answer!
you're right the problem with England is that if we aren't winning easily by playing good football the gap to the front men gradually gets wider and we start playing the long ball. McLaren needs to sort that out or he will be on his way, which might be a good thing if someone who can sort it out comes in. We are a good team, we don't NEED to play that way but it's the manager's job to spot what's happening and change it.
Devil's advocate Bit bored this lunchtime so I'll have a go. Maybe I'm daft but I agree with Alan Smith. Recent England Managers have picked too many players who are out of form. By all accounts Heskey is doing well at Wigan and high on confidence - quote from BBC re Sunderland game "Heskey, in particular, was a real menace and the Black Cats struggled to come to terms with his pace and strength". Is Israel's defence much better than Sunderland? Why not play him for a one-off? Who else is there? Tin hat on.
