I'm starting to think lots will leave and lots will come in - basically a new squad with a handful of the current crop Would be good to completely get rid of the losing mentality, even if it means getting rid of a few fan favourites. Hope there's room for O'Brien to stay though For me, the following would all be released: Cywka Woods McCourt Frimpong Hassel Turner Etuhu Jones Dawson Clark And either Lawrence or Mellis
Didnt someone point out that existing contracts are exempt? that might be a problem if we want to keep out of contract players like OBrien and Dawson as they will need to accept league 1 salaries but it doesnt force us to sell Steele OGrady Jennings etc to meet the salary rules. Signing Ramage might also be a challenge as I cant see him wanting a league 1 salary yet
It wouldn't surprise me to see every player out of contract released. Maybe Dawson could be offered much reduced terms, but personally i'd start from scratch. For those who've forgotten, Wilson was a battling midfielder who liked a tackle but could pass and orchestrate and he had a winning mindset. I imagine the lack of fight and heart and the cosy mindset of players who haven't been hurt by losing repeatedly rankles with him most. It wouldn't surprise me if we tried to offload Kennedy, M'Voto and Cranie too. The first two because they usually have considerable fault attached to them for a large portion of goals we concede. Cranie because it would free up a lot of wage and i think the first thing on DW's shopping list is a captain.
The thing I most want to hear today - ".......and Tom Kennedy has had his contract cancelled by mutual consent....." I'd also let all out of contract players go and, of our three saleable assets, I'd prefer Cranie to be the one who's sold, if it gives us a chance of keeping Cog and Jennings. I'd make an offer to Jimbo but as has been said elsewhere he has offers to return to the Scottish Prem which may be more attractive.
Absolutley, my point though is that everyone keeps talking about this 60% rule. We're not exactly fantastic at our off field revenue generation are we? We'll have to honour them but I can imagine there'll be a temptation to get people off the wage bill which might mean we don't push as hard as we might on a transfer fee...
If you look at it another way though. You have 4 major players indeed the spine of your team. goalie, centre half, attacking midfield and centre forward whose wages are all outside the cap. Flog them and get 4 new ones in then they all have to be paid for from within the salary cap. Idle looking to sell be of the 4 to balance the books and keep the rest unless someone offers us daft money. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk
Assuming we get fees rather than frees, we'd have some additional budget from that to throw into the pot too.
Think you're making a bit of a leap there. However, it will be interesting to see what sort of influence Mansford & Watkins have over fees received. If they don't and we get done over who's responsible ?
I think we could probably replace Cranie and Steele for nowt. Jennings and O'Grady I think we would have to spend money to replace. A reliable experienced goalscorer us not going to be cheap in any division and given we only have one forward at the club I guess you're talking of getting 2 in really. To replace Jennings I'd say again you'd need to spend at lest the 250k we got for him. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
We should know who we're keeping and getting rid of by now surely if we've not resigned the players we want to keep and made quite a few signings by the end of the month they can whistle for my season ticket money early next April
