Nuff said! Although i would have liked him to stop its not exactly a great record is it? Scored some great goals and some vitally important ones but didn't do enough for me on a consistent basis. Cant see him been a regular starter at Cov but no doubt he'll score on the opening day!

    But remember

you are only as good as the service you receive.

If the ball isn't passed to the strikers it's a little difficult to score.

    And

if you spent three quarters of your time stood offside it's difficult to score!

    Not quite in this case

For 70% of his oakwell career...

Ball is passed to Danny, its more than 3 yards from him, therefore he doesn't bother.

I think thats a fair assessment.

its probably also fair to say

that 70 % of his career resulting in coming off the bench when the game was as good as lost....

someone has a signature on of his stats, and if you take his Starts and Goals and don't take into account the many substitue appearances of an averga of about 5 minutes, then it look like the striker he actually is!

A prolific 9 goals a season man at best while at Oakwell.

Still think that being from Barnsley

we fans are no different from anywhere else when it seems we are losing a decent player - let's say they were rubish, didn't put in the effort, good riddance etc.

Ok some of the time Danny didn't have the best of games but how often did he start and how often did he have to come on as a sub and try and turn a game around?

He is fitter and appeared to be a more disciplined player at the end of the season so someone will be getting a good player in my opinion.

Glad I only had to type that instead of say it, my throat wouldn't cope!

    Never said he was rubbish

    just overrated.

If he got his act together for a full season then we would see just how good he is / is not.

You are right though, if he goes we may well have lost a decent player but not, on the evidence of his oakwell career so far, an irreplaceable one.

    nardiello.....

if they ball isnt played in to him without him having to move he doesnt want to know
when he has the ball he MUST try taking on 3/4 players then trying to score instead of laying it off for someone in a better position...the number of times at oakwell this season howard/devaney/togwell gave him a rollocking for not passing is unbeliveable

I think our problem is (and has been for a while) that weseem to sign strikers that like to play one way, a midfield that plays another and a defence that plays a third style.

Nardiello for example is excellent with the ball at his feet but our midfield played the long ball over the top of him the majority of the time when every fan in the stadium knew it wasn't his style of play. Rajczi had a couple of great games when devaney was playing to his strengths and whipping the ball into the box for him and when hayes came on for the second half after coming back from huddersfield. For the rest of his time here he was ineffective because he isn't a long ball over the top player but the midfield seemed to think he was.

Howard likes the ball at his feet but isnt so good at tackling so the defence pumps the ball over his head taking out his best points and leaving only the crap tackling when their defence plays the ball out (after the likes of nardiello and rajczi fail to win the ball because they too dont like long ball)).

I'm not sure why we seem to always do it, whether its simply the players that are too dumb to see that it doesnt work, or the manager that is unable to adapt from the standard one tactic (not just davey) or even if its the scouting system that is at fault for not realising that whilst player x might be a good player he simply wont fit in with the other players in the team but until we do our homework better and sign players based on how they'll fit into the team and play to their strangths then we and they will never show the true potential.

The last time he passed to Devaney...

he missed when it was easier to score, so I could not blame him for not passing!!

But why was he on the bench in the first place?

He seemed to play half a dozen matches and then get injured. I'm not sure how you can build a team around someone like that.

To be fairto Danny, I don't think his previous managers showed much faith in him. In particular, Paul Hart signed him up and then didn't play him. It was a similar story with Andy Ritchie (who seemed to bring him on as a substiture when the game was lost).

and now we have a manager that knows how to get him going.... shame

    cos the following can happen

he leaves for cov, and becomes idle again which will then give the nards slayers the perfect "i told you so"...

Personally, I would have though he would be better having one more stab with us under a manager who has shown he can get the best out of him, and then get a more decent move...

Is that right? Nowt to do with his contract being up and wanting to impress then? Just down to Davey? That'll be why he's off then! (doh)

I thought it was down to him not having a broken collar bone and having hired a personal trainer.

    Nardiello himself

gave credit to Davey for his improvement but lets not facts get in the way of a bit of Davey bashing. Lets be hoinest though broken collarbone or not it was highly unlikely that he would play any more than 30 games a season. Even St Andy could not get enough out of him and often deemed our other three strikers better.

Not Davey bashing, but couldn't let the statement that

Davey had somehow transformed Nardiello go unchallenged, pure conjecture put forward as fact, yet again. We don't know the real reason for his improvement, only Nads does, just pointing out the many other factors and possibilities.
