Two clubs- Barnsley and Sheffield Wednesday. Same points, both at the foot of the league. To listen to most, Danny Wilson is the obvious candidate should we not turn to Mellon. Why isn't he at Wednesday, an (admittedly "massively" delusional) club, despite being something of a legend there? I'd have to answer because his record with them and his record with us are at completely opposite ends of the success spectrum: 16 years ago. Since Bristol, nothing he has done in the intervening years has made him an appealing Championship choice; league one, yes, but not Championship. He left us for them, and yet people are clamouring to have him back. So a Wednesday legend, who left us for them when we needed him most. And still I've heard no mention of him at Wednesday, but clamour for him here. Based on the memories of 1996-8. Just questioning this massive swell of support- I have no bad feelings anymore towards Wilson and could see his brand of football being good with our squad potentially.
Not even questioning the support actually; more that he seems to be the only serious candidate mentioned. Or is sentimentality the best approach in choosing a new manager? I've heard a lot about win records as if this proves everything, but it doesn't; for instance in managing Sheffield United in League One, Wilson will have had a good win record, but ultimately was sacked for not matching the club's expectations for its size and finances proportionately in the league
