Right - get your heads around this: Danny Wilson - he's the ultimate hero/villain figure for some - no doubt - for me he's a hero. He took us somewhere we never dreamed we'd ever go - I'll never forget it. Ultimately the manner in which he left, although unpleasant, is neither here nor there for me. It's about the good times. He still plays that style of football. We've never had football played in that fashion since he left. Even immediately after he left the football wasn't as pure, that simple passing game with the movement off the ball, the one touch stuff that got you on the edge of your seats. Everywhere he has been he has taken that signature style of play with him. Just remember the way we treated Sheffield United at Oakwell the season we got promoted. It should always be that way. Danny Wilson - although he's 'never done anything since he left us' he's always done well - he's been there or there abouts (and never had his clubs in trouble - Wednesday aside although we can all forgive him for that one, and I'm not convinced that was his fault TBH). Most of those clubs have wanted too much to soon and weren't willing to stick with him long enough. Yes some people are anti - but it wouldn't stop them buying a ticket to see what he could do. He'd draw people in. AND eventually he would win all the people over. We could start playing that style of football again, start winning games by attacking teams - yes there'd be ups and downs - but we'd be doing it the right way. He's our Brian Clough. By that I mean that he'd get us playing simple proper football the way it is supposed to be played. We have the type of players now that he would improve and get to gel. Players like Anderson and Colace are made to play for a manager like Danny Wilson. There is no way Danny Wilson would get us relegated from this division. Two years down the line relegation would be unthinkable. We'd be finishing ninth, tenth in the division. Good cup runs without looking over our shoulders. The last thing of course is the bad blood. I imagine that Danny has an enormous amount of regret for the way that he left us and the fact that things have never been settled. He'd come back looking to make it up to us - there's a bond there that is more than financial. There is unfinished business. I doubt that he'd be as expensive as a Coppell or a Jewell either. You know that you'd get behind him if he started to do the old magic for us. Come on now - altogether 'WALKING ALONG! SINGING A SONG! WALKING IN A WILSON WONDERLAND! THERE'S ONLY ONE DANNY WILSON...' (check your pulse, you're already getting excited) ...I'd be on the phone to Danny right now.
You make a very good case and I'm sold on it... however 'nivver want 'im back cos 'e left us fo Wenzdi' may be something to have to contend with.
Don't know mate, however it appears he is not concerned about moving for a job Brizzle to Hartlepool to Swindon.
I remember the dark days of administration We played Bristol City when Wilson was manager and they footballed us to death and won 4-1. I recall spending the game wishing that Wilson was sat in the other dugout and that feeling has never quite gone away for me. They always say never go back, and it'd be foolish to hope for anything like a repeat of that success, but I'm pretty sure we'd be better off with Wilson than we were under Davey. I'd at least feel confident that we'd not be aiming for 4th bottom year after year.
been there done that done nothing of any worth since deserting us for the fowls ,wouldnt touch him with a barge pole
Didn't he get Brizzle to two play off finals albeit in league 1 ? and I don't think he was shabby at Hartlepool.
its all opion.Somewill ,some will not like the new guy who ever it is can't please em all.I do reckon, though, that the board already have a very real idea who it is, and it will happen fast.
What, like Chopra at Cardiff? And Redknapp at Portsmouth? Bet their fans wish they'd never gone back ;-) GET DANNY BACK NOW!!! It's only the narrow minded ones that wouldn't want him back because of leaving us for the pigs.
I'll have some of that, it definately needs someone to get the fans passionate again and give the place a lift. Davey tried his best to be fair but the fans never warmed to him, not a good start being appointed full time manager the day after losing badly to Wednesday at home
