...listened to the full Andy Giddings one. Are we playing Chelsea on Saturday or something? Maybe some international 'all star' team?
Not heard the interview but we are playing a good side and I would be very happy to come away with a point.
I'm not sure that's what he's saying but we are poor at the minute and they are playing well. Its just where we are.
Win, lose or draw, I only hope that the fans who are paying good money to go get to see hard work and effort. Its the very least the players can give the fans.
Play well praise will be forthcoming. Another repeat of last week and the blunderbuss will be discharged.
What he said is just a continuation of the last few seasons of expectations being played down within the club through an host of different managers. Now alot of fans have bought into it and so don't seem as bothered with our poor season.
We have spent years telling L**ds, Blunts etc that they have no divine right to go to these "little" clubs and win and now we are doing it? We have more fans, better facilities, more history and a bigger budget than MK Dons. Didn't stop them coming to Oakwell and battering us. We are playing a good side and should be happy with a point on Saturday.
my take - and it's admittedly a sweeping statement - is that people just want to be entertained. personally, i'm kind of ok with us playing well and losing. because we will come up against better teams - and if we play well consistently, i believe we'll win more than we'll lose i do have a problem with absolute dog$hit football on a weekly basis though. that's when the weekly spin from wilson, mansford et al, starts to grate with me right now i just want wilson, mansford and every wilson-tinted fan to come out and say it's not good enough and needs to improve. honesty. and i want to see this quality squad that i keep hearing about, show that quality out on the pitch. that's all
But Mansford & Wilson get bollocked on here for having raised expectations last summer. Which is it ?
Did he ever guarantee we would recruit early or did he say we would try and get our business done early? The club are criticized for not communicating with the fans. When they do and declare their intentions for the transfer window they are criticized for it not going exactly to plan. They haven't waited around for deadline day to see if there are any last minute bargains, they have gone into the window with a plan. Some of it came off and some of it hasn't. All we need to know is that everyone is working their nuts off behind the scenes to bring the right players to the club. Only my opinion, but I think they are.
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/football/27189315 I think from this, I'd pull him up on the loan players thing - but even then the situation throughout a season is subject to change. As regards the rest, I would imagine most 'promises/pledges' were based on a belief that Steele, O'Grady and Crainie would be off the wage bill sharpish.
While the abomination of last season was still ongoing, we were asked/begged/manipulated into buying next year's season ticket with very little notice. We were told that this was so we could recruit early. The club knew for a fact that it could not recruit until the wage bill was reduced, ergo it was a false statement.
Renewing season tickets in numbers meant that the board could produce their budgets early knowing what sort of income they could expect from ticket sales. This meant they were in prime position to approach players early. Yes they knew they also had to move on certain players before this budget could actually be used, but do you think the club should have advertised this at the time? For example if we announced to the fans we had to move players on first do you not think Brighton would use that to squeeze every penny out of the COG deal? I'm not arguing with you that the announcements need to be taken with a pinch of salt, all i'm saying is that I believe they are for the good of the club and not to line anybody's pocket.
It was, as things turned out, a false promise. I'm all for the club keeping fans in the loop but when the promise wasn't adhered to then supporters naturally become suspicious of the statements and actions of the club.
People either buy season tockets or they don't. Certainly nothing said by anyone at the club has either prompted me to do so or convinced me not to do so. make my own decisions based on my personal circumstances and level of committment. I guess I assumed everyone else did too.
