In about an hours time, we could see France become a far-right nation. Frightening.

Just looking at the exit poll commentary. All sounds very inconclusive, apart from heading towards a hung parliament. Either way, it's a very worrying trend, across Europe and further afield.

RN in 3rd place. NFP and Ensemble might not be happy working together but from what I was looking at quarter of an hour ago you'll forgive me for celebrating. We can worry about the trend later.

Edit: My previous post wasn't directed at you, @Marc. Just an outburst of surprise and relief.

Well done. Must be such a relief. Liberté, égalité, fraternité.

People across Europe feel politicians don't represent them well enough. Governments need to listen more to concerns or sadly it's going to get worse.

I’d wait for the official count. Exit polls not always right but fingers crossed

Better than I feared from the exit polls.

Left/centrists have stopped them by looks. Well done French if so. Too much hatred and division in politics.

Travelled over with my wife to vote. It's amazing what the left can achieve when it works together. A great evening

I read they’re very accurate in France as they count actual votes.

Sad sides have to work together to stop someone else. It's good in this instance but they need to look at why Le Pen is popular.

Jean-Luc Mélenchon has some crazy policies and doesn't like the EU. Could be Frexit soon.

Even Le Pen has dropped Frexit from her manifesto. The idea has become far less popular in France even with the extremists, with them having seen how well it's worked out for us.

Let’s see what the money markets think Monday. Truss on steroids seems to be the thinking.

Might have made your week, Helen, but I fear if things don't change, the next few years could be a very damning place in Europe.

I’m afraid it’s the way politics are conducted now on social media. It’s all bitter rivalries, with assumptions and accusations and name calling behind a keyboard. You just have to look at any political thread on here.

Theres never any middle ground, it has to be one or the other, and everyone else is a moron who doesn’t deserve to breath….

This enables and descends into polar politics…

That's the relative failure of centre ground neo liberal capitalism for you.
