Inverness Caledonian Thistle captain Darren Dods is understood to have signed a pre-contract agreement with Dundee United.

Dods is out of contract in the summer and has been free to talk to other clubs since January 1 and United appear to have struck a deal.

"I have heard about it but I will wait until Darren speaks to me next week," said Inverness boss Charles Christie.

"Obviously I am disappointed, but it is not unexpected and in my heart of hearts I know the budgets other clubs work with, so it is not a huge surprise.

"However, we got him for nothing and turned his career around without a doubt.

"If we hadn't signed him for free from St Johnstone when he wasn't getting a game, then who knows where Darren Dods might be just now.

"He owes a lot to Caley Thistle and I am talking as if he has gone, although I hope that isn't the case.

"However if it is true, we have to accept these things and we had it when we were in the First Division when we lost the likes of Barry Wilson and Paul Sheerin, but we still managed to step on from there.

"The challenge is whether we can do it again."

While Dods is on his way to Tannadice, one man on his way out is Grant Smith.

We need an experienced centre half.....................but

    Who would he replace
After watching Atkinson put a £6 million rated player in his pocket against PNE, who would it be ???
One of the older guys, Reid ??? Kay ???

On his present form, after only 2 games, Atkinson is already worth £1 million
If he keeps improving, which I think he will do, Barnsley are going to have a job on keeping him at the club

    1 million????

shows how desperate times are if we are making judgement on players after a handful of games like that.

Yes he has done well and not put a foot wrong but he has played a handful of games, he is just starting his career ffs nicky wroe started off well and now look!

Such an over the top statement ot like barnsley fans to make them is it!!??!?!

Plus why do some on here...?

Slag players off when they're with us, but has soon has they leave for another club they want 'em to stay with us??
Seems Richards is the latest player to fall into that category.

    Atkinson

yes I think Atkinson is probably better than Reid already but he is only nineteen. I think any new centre half should play alongside Kay, with Kay as captain. Atkinson is only just starting his career and would be fine on the bench for this season at least. Kay cares about the club and organises the defence when he plays, so we need a tall, experienced player to partner him.

Whatever Nudger says Atkinson will still be here next season then we'll see where we are.

Problem we have with our defence is our midfield sit so closely that when we regain possesion the first thing we do is lump it up the pitch and invite pressure straight back, we need defenders with some composure and not just hoof in clear unless it needs be
