Have I missed something? He was claiming to be a Barnsley fan today, always thought he was Spurs...
Anyway, on top of his Tory campaigning, he further showed how out of touch he is today with Joe public by saying that his team losing as a fan doesn't ruin his day and shouldn't yours...
...oh and according to him a ticket is 10 to 15 quid for Footy. Shows how many freebies he gets!

camereon asked him to stand for the barnsley seat in the last election
if he'd come down my path he'd have got a right earfull whether camera's there or not.
would have asked him why he was campaigning for a party that despises barnsley people so much.
and totally kicks the towns people evey time they're in gov't

I definitely read him say the complete opposite in an article about a couple of years ago Hemmsy. That's why I was so surprised to see him on the Ponty End.

He's a Barnsley fan. He likes Spurs though so he says, from when Spurs were good when he was a kid.

He must now live in Buckingham. I saw him in Tescos there on a Saturday afternoon, which proves that he was neither watching Spurs, nor the Reds ,,,, but then ... nor was I!!

He's only a Barnsley fan when we're in a final or equally big game. I wouldn't imagine we even register with him the rest of the time. 100% big time plastic fan.

'Anyway, on top of his Tory campaigning, he further showed how out of touch he is today with Joe public....'

While I agree that Goughy is clearly a plastic Barnsley fan, the bit about Tory campaigning meaning he's out of touch with joe public is clearly wish-fulfilment b*llocks isn't it, given the previous (and probably next) election results.

I don't mind (and normally ignore) the typically blinkered and misinformed anti-Tory propaganda we get on here, however when that turns into making things up to suit your own agenda I normally have to say something. Who knows, perhaps Goughy's had his mind sufficiently broadened by being out of Barnsley long enough to understand there's more to politics than just childish prejudice.

Eh? Spurs were a 'top five' club in the 80s

They were never dominant like you get the elite clubs these days but they certainly were a decent side.

They allus had the flair players... Villa, Ardilles, Hoddle, Waddle, Gazza etc and were a great side to watch. Clive Allen scoring a million goals in a season. Ossie's 'famous five' attackers.

Back to back cup wins 81 and 82 (when the FA Cup was prestigious). Cup runners up in 87, which was arguably their best season before the backlog of games took their toll and their league title hopes disappeared. Cup winners in 91. UEFA Cup winners in 84.

Guess who was a Spurs fan as a kid.

Hmmm, for the record, I was born and raised in Barnsley, and indeed to this day still live in (and work not too far from) town.

Thankfully that's not prevented me from becoming intelligent and considered enough to be able to understand politics is about more than insularity and narrow-minded prejudice.

That and the fact that socialism doesn't work. Thankfully the majority in this country also seem to understand this.

Check out the brain on you

So intelligent that you can deduce that local anti-Tory sentiment must be a product of insularity and childish prejudice. So perceptive to be able to dismiss abhorrant right wing politics and the legacy of Thatcher, Heseltine and Clarke as possible root causes.

I don't wish to get into a political discussion but you simply cannot wave people's views away as ignorant, insular and prejudiced. That would make you prejudiced.

Aye, capitalism is doing a great job. What happens when everything is privatised? And growth has gone?

Good post. It gets my goat that Tories round here somehow think they are enlightened.

They care as much about you as they do the rest of us. In fact they probably laugh at you like they do other class traitors.

Are you happy with a budget for the rich?

I'm genuinely interested to hear why you are a Tory though?

    Not you, Red West.
