Darren Moores stats

Although I'd like to see someone like Eric Ramsey soley based on what Carrick and McKenna have achieved as young Man.Utd coaches (Ramsey rated as the better coach).If we leave that route and go down the tried and tested Darren Moore sticks out as a leading candidate based on his stats and the affection shown to him by the supporters.

I've heard some complain about his style of football but sometimes its horses for courses.From coaching a team of pensioners to a team of young fit athletes he could well adopt a different style.Bottom line is he sets up teams to get results and his record proove that he can achieve that.
So we have a candidate who can get results,get the fans onside and gets the respect from his players not whats not to like.

 

He doesn't like flat breads or fashion.

 

I just think he's tactically not that great. Look at how Duff outthought him every game last season.

I don't think he'd be an awful appointment, far from it, and I'm sure he'd have the utmost respect of the players. However, of the other candidates I like the look of Dave Challinor. But if we do end up going with Darren Moore, he'd have my full backing.

 

But that was over 3 games,what about the games he won to reach 96 points,he must of out thought or over powered them.

 

And he wouldn’t have to play us !

 

But over the course of the season with that logic, Duff must have been out thought more than Moore??

Moore was playing with a settled squad from the start. Duff had to do a lot of tinkering for the first ten games, then we dropped points later on when we were already effectively out of the running for automatic promotion. I'm guessing that from around game 11 to 42, we picked up more points than Wednesday.

 

If we're playing manager Top Trumps there's an obvious solution, Gary Caldwell at Exeter or Mark Kennedy at Lincoln, their teams ran rings round Duff.

 

Maybe so...... I don't know whether Duff was that good tactically either, but his man management was top notch which I think is just as important if not more.

All these top ex players that struggle as managers have had the best tactical training all of their careers and it hasn't done them much good, man management is where they fall down I think.

 

All fair points. I believe that Moore's man-management is probably exceptional, and I certainly wouldn't be against us employing him. He'd certainly be a popular appointment from what I can see.

 

I was a fan of Duff but the fact that he never won a match from a goal down and, aside from MK Dons away, I don't recall us recovering many points from losing positive you would have to assume that tactically he was lacking something.

 

I like him as a person but over the last two years he must have had a much better budget to work with than the majority in League 1, so that could be a part of how he ended up with a strong win ratio. Can he bring young players through and improve players on the way we’d need him to?

 

Was surprised to see those win percentages. Not sure about his style of football though. That might count against him?

 

Dreadful football from Mark Kennedy though. Proper horrible stuff. Wouldnt take fans long to turn on him if were playing crap and not even getting results

 

I keep seeing references to his style of football but I'm not even sure what that was.

There are posts referencing tippy-tappy playing out from the back but then others reckoning he was long ball. He can't be both. Unless he was tactically versatile.

He eventually went long at Hillsborough when it became obvious we were isolating players that couldn't handle the press. Going long from Bannon using Hail Mary, Quarterback style passes could have got them a goal or two but for good keeping by Collins and poor play by their forward (Gregory?).

At Oakwell he got them back to 2-2 from 2-0 down. I don't recall that being all long ball or tippy-tappy. If he'd settled for the draw I think he might not have conceded the final two goals.

Play off final. He definitely opted for a more passive style deliberately. It almost cost him when Connell went close. Aside from that Wednesday didn't create huge amounts but apart from Norwood's pressing and harassing, we huffed and puffed without creating too much either (yes, I know, numerical disadvantage).

Didn't watch enough of their other matches to be able to comment on his style. No idea how he played at WBA or Donny. The fact remains he took one of the division's oldest squads on a club record unbeaten run, broke records for points and clean sheets and in pretty much any other season would have been promoted as champions.

I'm not sure I want him in charge but I'm not sure I don't either. He seems a genuine guy and if he got the job I'd back him. There are worse options.

He’d be my choice for the job. No compo to pay, knows the division, done well in all his previous jobs and seems a pretty likeable person. I also think due to the fact he was harshly sacked at West Brom and left in a strange manner at Wednesday, he wouldn’t jump ship at the first opportunity (probably still would).

Think it will be Disco’s chance though.
