The last time we were given a overview of the recruitment it was said data was used for identification / tracking of players and then they’d look at video clips and send scouts to watch etc. It was also mentioned about understanding the personality of the player and that they fit the team. Data was only used as part of the identification process.
This was when Gauthier was here but assume this is still the case

I think it depends on your understanding of AI. Machine learning, which is a subset of AI is used extensively already to make predictions based on experience and data (such as predicting fraudulent transactions). I don't see any reason why it couldn't be used to do the same with recruitment data.

I’ve seen it at work in my own business in terms of recruitment. With results that were far from what was expected.

Whatever happened to football scouts? Do they exist these days?
I'm currently reading Anfield Iron, Tommy Smith, and he goes on about how Shankly and Paisley spotted player's potential through their scouts. Prime example being Kevin Keegan, where they "manufactured" him over a period of time.
It seems to me this art of the game has long gone!

You don't need YouTube. There are websites club pay to have access to. There's one I used to pay to access which had a ridiculous amount of data and video clips on it.

You could select any player and then you could click on things like, positive passes, sideways passes, backwards passes, decisions under pressure, runs, aerial challenges, shots, throws, tackles, fouls. Basically anything. Click that and it brought up EVERY one that player had done this season (and presumably seasons prior).

I'm looking forward to the day that my AI goes off and watches the match, while I do something else. Overnight, the whole game will be downloaded into my memory, then after gauging my reactions, my AI will post disparaging comments, humorous remarks, and occasional rants on the BBS.

I'm all for using data, but not at the expense of common sense. One or two punts a season is an acceptable risk in my opinion, more than that and you're playing with competitive and financial fire; stuck with money pits instead of players and circling the relegation drain.

    Sounds familiar.
