As requested on another thread this is rare stuff. Season highlights of the 1999/00 season. Enjoy. P.s the play offs and final are on another video, one for next time.
Up there with my favourite seasons ever - that side were so entertaining. Watching Hignett was a sheer pleasure - one of the most technically gifted players we've ever had at Oakwell
I feel like a kid at Christmas, so much of this season I can remember but haven't seen other than being at the match. What a side we had, counter attacking as good we've ever done. Two goals stand out for me, not piledrivers or anything, but simple fast football on the counter attack. First one away at Fulham in the 3-1 win, I think it was Jones who won the ball in our own box, 4 or 5 touches later involving Sheron, Hignett and Van Der Laan and we were 3-1 up. Second one was Shipperley's away at Sheff Utd in the 3-3 draw. Again, a handful of touches and a great finish, one end of the pitch to the other. We were an Arjan de Zeeuw away from going up automatically that season.
I remember being stood in the gangway in injury time, waiting for the whistle because I needed to get out and off for the train quickly. Only to see Marcus Bent equalise. Nothing worse than a last minute goal conceded at Sheffield venues. B*******.
Aye, it was painful. I think it was a weak header or backpass from John Curtis, one of very few errors he made playing for us.
Was thinking the same, weird remembering goals having not seen them since being there in person twenty plus years ago. A great, crazy season; most goals scored in league (88) and conceded more (67) than West Brom, who finished fourth bottom. Agree about De Zeeuw to an extent, though I thought Morgan and Chettle had a solid partnership. The issue as I remember it was the fella between the sticks, my God!
