Davey backs video use

Published: 25/11/2008
Barnsley boss Simon Davey believes it is time referees were allowed to use video replays to help them get decisions right.
Davey`s side experienced a huge slice of luck in beating Burnley 3-2 at Oakwell. Simon Whaley`s controversial goal gave the Tykes a two-goal cushion at the start of the second half.
Jamal Campbell-Ryce picked the ball up in midfield and ran at the Burnley defence, his goalbound shot deflected of Whaley and flew past a helpless Brian Jensen.
Replays showed Whaley was offside when the ball struck him but despite the protests of several Burnley players the referee ruled the goal should stand.
Davey sympathised with his opposite number Owen Coyle and said: "Yes it was a dubious decision and looking at the replay I can see why Owen is upset because he was offside - but that happens. We came away from Preston on Saturday after Dennis Souza had been picked up and thrown into the crowd and they scored off it. We lost points there but we have had the rub of the green here.
"I think a lot can be said for video replays because if it comes into the game it eradicates all those silly decisions that are happening at the moment."
Burnley boss Coyle claims the defeat has left him with the "worst feeling in football."
Coyle criticised the match officials for failing to spot that Whaley was offside, he said: "It is the worst feeling in football to sit here with no points after that game, given what we offered.
"The second goal was a big turning point, there`s no getting away from it. The lad took the shot and I knew during the game he was offside and I've seen it on the TV. The replays show he was two yards in advance of our back line and you can't say he`s not interfering with play.
"It's just a bad decision and I asked at the time the fourth official to ask the linesman who was playing him on. And the answer I got was that his view was obscured by Burnley players but there were no Burnley players in sight of that line.
"It's a hard one to take because we certainly merited a result out of that game."

Like the comment from Burnley Manager We should have got so0mething from this game but did'nt because of the refs decision. Should just remind him we were winning 3-0 and we only allowed them to score 2 goals because we made silly mistakes in the last 15 minutes. Up to then we were easily the best side.
only trouble is that video evidence is dependant on capture of the event ,what about jcr bieng dragged back by the shirt by there attackers resulting in there first goal.
