Davey forced to wait on deals
    Tuesday 28 Jul 2009

Barnsley manager Simon Davey has admitted that his is frustrated by the amount of time being taken to try and bring a number of new players to Oakwell.

Davey is still hopeful of completing a number of deals, but accepts that he face plenty of competition.

He told the club's official website: "We are having to be patient this season. We have targets, the same targets we have had for the last three weeks.

"It's proving a bit difficult to overcome the final hurdle, but we are close to getting three or four of our final targets and we're confident of getting them in the building.

"We sign players and people don't realise that three or four clubs also come in for them.

"It's down to myself and the staff to sell the club to them and that's why it sometimes takes so long."

    Hang about...

I don't mind Davey myself, but I couldn't ignore this little slip:

"It's down to myself and the staff to sell the club to them and that's why it sometimes takes so long."

Might want to rephrase that, Si.

It looks like the most honest thing he's said since he took over as manager

That is probably not what he actually said. I read stuff on the official website, and then listen to the interview, and the way it is copied is sometimes very misleading. Sentences/words/punctuation missed out or mixed up can give a totally different impression of what was said. The written interviews are just bits of the the whole conversation.

............near bottom of the league for the last THREE seasons will not help

And neither will the absence of a well known face within footballing circles. A Mick McCarthy type presence at the club, or someone of similar ilk would do us a world of good in the transfer market

These comments were made last week although the article has got todays date on.The players mentioned at the weekend will be worth waiting for so patience is the key.Don't forget all fans are waiting for new signings but Nottingham Forest apart the market seems very quiet at the moment.

Forest came up 2 years after us, so why do they have so much more money?

    Rich Chairman/Owners?

In League 1 they spent 1 Million on the pair from Yeovil - Aaron Davies and Chris Cohen. They were still regularly spending then, got promoted and splashed out 2.5 Million on Earnshaw, 1 Million on Garner (who won't get a game next season!) etc etc. Alway's had the luxury of being able to spend on a regular basis. Sadly we can't do that.

    Are you for real?

PC does have money but know where near as much as what they have.

Their about to splash out another 2.5 Million on Matt Mills from Donny, on the basis i've seen him he isn't worth a Million never mind the figure quoted. They paid 1.6 Million for Dexter Blackstock and gave him a 4 year contract worth 10k a week - we just can't compete financially with that with £££££ being so inflated now-a-days. To be honest if they don't get promoted in 1/2 years which i presume is there ambition then they could the Administration route could be coming towards them

PC isn't stupid and isn't going to blow out are entire budget just because you want to see 'box office' signings every transfer window - thank **** you aren't our Chairman. We've been in Administration once and do not wan't go back there! Oh; and were in a Recession mate.

RE: Don't get me wrong Scott

I agree that 2.5m Earnshaw and 1.75m Gunter are out of our league.
However let's also bare in mind we have now been at this level for 3 season's and have had the added bonus of a cup run to the semis at Wembley.
Surely by now we should at least be able to fend off the likes of Blackpool in the transfer market, yet they are prepared to meet Rangers asking price for Charlie Adam and we apparently are not.
Also 500k for Nyatanga is chicken feed for a player of his class at 20 years old. Baring in mind we are crying out for a centre half where were we when this deal was taking place?

I agree with you their mate but i honestly think that most of the Cup money got spent on Iain Hume? Forgive me if i'm wrong but i read somewhere that we didn't gain that much money from the Cup run. Is it no coincidence that last season we spent 1.2 Million on Hume right after the Cup run yet this season we aren't prepared to meet Ranger's asking price for Adam? Either that or PC doesn't trust SD no more in the market :D. Totally agree about Nyatanga too, would have thought they 500k for him would be a snippet and has bags of potential with being really young too. Would have been Foster and Nyatanga this if we had gone in for him as this season we'll get caught out with Moore's lack of pace, read's the game very well but we need someone to replace him this season so he can be used as a back-up.

RE: I think you may be right

about PC not trusting SD any more in the transfer market, hence Davey going against his previous trends by saying we're having a more British based squad and by looking like he'll give youth a chance. Is it more a case of PC saying "no more foreign crap Simon"?

But if this is the case and Cryne doubts Davey then surely he must sack him? Back him or sack him as the saying goes. If Davey wants Charlie Adam then let's pay 500k. Otherwise if we make a bad start and SD's job is on the line again then he is within his rights to say he hasn't been allowed to bring in the players he wants this time.

I agree about Moore. No way will we get a full season out of him. We need a CH to replace him and have Moore as back up.

RE: I think you may be right

Yup i think PC has the same view as the fans such as the likes of Mostto, El Haimour etc have no way been cut out for this level or league and simply aren't good enough if we are to improve in the Championship. In previous seasons he hasn't given the Youth a chance at all yet he's suddenly changed his mind(seestars).

Would love to see Charlie Adam down at Oakwell and definetely think he'd improve the squad massively, someone who will have a run at defences and have an effort on goal unlike the likes of Anderson and Colace - who by the way are very good Defensive Midfielder's but just don't have the attacking intent. Get Adam in and sit one of them on the bench - it would be Anderson and Adam for me.

Wolves have made 3 very good Championship defenders available - Darren Ward, Neil Collins and Jason Shackell. I'd take any one of those but would go for Ward personally.
