Is one of the problems we have - especially in attracting players - that Davey and his staff are a bunch of nobodies? Davey in his first job - packed in at 27 Ryan Kidd - who? Kelham O'Hanlon - ditto Just look at our past managers:- Allan Clarke, Norman Hunter, Bob Collins - footballing legends Mel Machin - managed in 1st divison Viv Anderson and Danny Wilson - top division players well respected in the game Nigel Spackman - as above and despite what we might say about him now he came with a decent reputation Dave Bassett - good managerial record the only other manager we have had who did **** all as manager and player is Steve Parkin and look where he took us prospective players must look at that trio and think who are these people?
Preston legends Kidd was well liked by their fans, something to do with attacking a Carlisle player when he was on the bench one game, and not getting spotted by the ref
Bad post... Your post is one reason, why so many people who love the game, can't progress. Although Davey isn't a lot of things, he is a man of hard work and ambition - he took the hard route to football management and should be praised for that. Whether he is 'actually' cut out to be said manager - is another thing. But people shouldn't be scorned because they are, like you said, 'nobodies'. He gives average, ordinary people - that little glimmer of hope. Just like Jose Mourinho - he was a nobody too...
RE: Bad post... as bad as your "penalty" post or whatever it was?? so he's got a few badges and that's the hard route is it? steve parkin was a nobody in the game that's why we had to sign Gary Jones and Paul Gibbs Danny Wilson was well respected and managed to bring in Hendrie & Wilkinson Simon Davey is not a name as a manager or a player therefore he has less pulling power
I can see the sense in that previously we have attracted decent domestic players to the club but for some reason now we can't seem to do that. It's not just money IMHO. It's about the reputation of the club within football. I wonder what it is like?
RE: Bad post... I don't think you have to be a name as such..just forge a good reputation inside the game and I don't think we've got that
RE: Bad post... I thought it was pretty funny. Hmmm, well - the FA level 1 badge takes around 2 months. The level 2, around 2 years, and level 3, level 4 progressively harder and longer - so yeah, he didn't just walk into the hotseat like a lot of managers. He's worked hard to get to where he has, and for that, he should be praised. I don't think you can possibly dispute that. In fact, no, you can't. So, just because he has less pulling power makes him ****? I don't think so. I agree, some of his 'tactics' are questionable. But he's only young in managers terms; I'm pretty sure he's giving it his all - he is, afterall, only human. Anyways, my point was, that your post was rubbish. And should be treated as such.
Poet its not as rubbish as going drinking in Dewsbury , then telling everyone its a great place to go out in, everyone is entitled to their opinion, not just you.
RE: Bad post... You obviously have difficulty reading but I'll try and explain it to you I am not talking about Davey's ability as a manager I am talking about how others in the game may see him due to his lack of experience and achievement as a player and a manager Practically every poster on here who is old enough to have seen him will say Ronnie Glavin is the best player they have seen in a Barnsley shirt How the **** do you think we signed him when he was at one of the biggest clubs in Europe? He didn't come to the town and say "I'll have some of that" He came because we had a footballing legend as manager who sold the club to him Whether you like it or not names and reputations attract players and Davey is not a name - doesn't matter how hard you think he's worked And another thing - a coaching badge is not an advantage in this day and age - it's a basic requirement
RE: Bad post... So, in the grand scheme of things - what are you trying to say from your post? All I'm saying is this: Every single manager had to start somewhere - he's kept us in this division for 2 years now. Fair enough, we have started poorly, and I'm the first to admit that. But getting on his back isn't going to do any good is it mate?
