BARNSLEY manager Simon Davey will not be making moves for any of the four trialists training at Oakwell in the last few weeks.

Simon told Barnsley Player: "We have let them all go. We might have taken some of them in previous seasons.

"John Glele is an excellent left back. We felt that we had Rob Kozluk at the club already and signing John would stand in the way of Luke Potter's development.

"Jurgen Csandl is another good player but I did not feel that we could get 15 or 20 games out of him in a Championship season. We looking at getting a defender in with a little more stature.

"Deogo had all the right attributes but was not at the right fitness level to be tested at this level. We will monitor his progress.

Anduela Prior came here with a good pedigree from Holland but if we were to sign him for the money they wanted then he would have had to have been a regular in our starting eleven. We did not feel we could offer that with the likes of Martin Devaney and Jamal Campbell-Ryce in our squad as well".

Er..isn't Rob Kozluk right footed? I know he plays left side as well but he is RIGHT FOOTED so why not get a specialist left footer in as well? Maybe wants too much money (chinny)

    More to the point

If we've already decided that Kozzy's playing there with Potter as back up why take a left back on trial in the first place?

  4. More is good maybe?

More trialists around the place instead of more new signings? Wouldn't look good to see NO new faces on the training pitch would it and we are obviously still in negotiations to bring in the box office signings!
I reckon he has let the talented Dutch winger go because he is confident of landing Adam Hammill. Let's hope so anyway. I am convinced there will be 2 or 3 new faces this week and that we will all be reasonably happy with them.

unbelievable!! your questioning why we have someone on trial? a trial costs us nothing and he could have been a superb player that would have won player of the season, therefore pushing out kozzy and potter.

the manager is taking players on trial with a view to improving the squad, if he deems them to be no better than what we have or if there is other issues then he is right to let them go.

Stop moaning for the sake of moaning

    Just a thought...

Maybe he's got them in knowing full he well that he's not going to sign them, just brought them in to fill the gaps for the friendlies whilst signings start to come i.e. This week and that's why they've been released? A few trialists played at the Gainsborough and Frickley games and without them we may not have been able to field a side? He's also said we should expect 3/4 signings this week (dunno).

Probably wrong but just a thought.

I would imagine he's not as good os Kozluk and not much better than Potter so there is no point in signing him, if he had been better than Kozzie maybe Davey would have taken him.

Davey gets criticised for not talking to the fans then his every word gets twisted.

Good on him for providing a succinct, clear summary on the trialists.

    No.

That's why he's said Luke Potter will be back up.

Mmmmh......... no mention of Maxime Chanot, does that mean he's still here?

hope not, he looked awful in late sub appearance against Ferencvaros..... caused chaos in centre of defence! I know he's young but much improvement needed, I hope our academy lads are of a better standard.

I was just thinking the same

He looks very average and aren't we suppose to be siging players to challenge for a first teaam place like we did with Darren Moore last season.

    Who's moaning?

I'm not moaning, I'm making a valid point.

If he was a superb player that would win player of the season he wouldn't be having a trial at Barnsley.

Or maybe he was just being professional and fair to the lad.

Instead of saying he was **** and scuppering any chance of a move to another club?

    Yeah

Quite possibly, that's good. I'm just wondering why we bothered having a left back on trial if we're happy with our left backs.

Davey has depleted the squad so badly that he HAD to bring trialists in in order to play two games

No coincidence that they arrived just before we had two games on one day and that they all played those games and were all in positions we had zero cover.

    They are better than Chanot.

I saw him play against our academy last season and RNL and Jamil Adam gave him a torrid time.

Whilst I would not judge someone on one game, I was surprised to see him here on trial.

We have got two or three lads (2nd year scholars) who in my opinion have a chance of comimg through to the first team.

"Deanotyke" has previously mentioned the players who I think have got a chance. But it's only my opinion and that counts for nothing!

    Remind me

Last time we signed a trialist that won player of the year.

We had Souza who was a good player - but he was on trial because we needed a centre back and weren't happy with what we had.
