??? he's being very complimentary Speaking exclusively to www.barnsleyfc.co.uk ahead of the clash with Crystal Palace, Simon said: "Our fans were fantastic in the second half on Tuesday night and they really made a difference our there. "Hopefully they can repeat that against Crystal Palace and we can have a repeat performance from the fans and players".
Are you training as a journo? Excuse the insult but you have been a little selective with your quotes!!
I just quoted from here http://www.barnsleyfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/NewsDetail/0,,10309~1184550,00.html#continue</p> nothing about low crowds</p>
http://www.barnsleyfc.premiumtv.co.uk/page/SimonDavey/0,,10309~1184635,00.html "Our fans were fantastic in the second half on Tuesday night. We did not break the 10,000 mark which was a little disappointing and we need to attract some back to Oakwell. The players are performing like entertainers at the moment and they will continue to do that until the end of the season. "I can promise the stay away fans that we will continue to play entertaining football and show passion. If our supporters come back in their thousands I am sure they will be even better.
Just goes to show again They can take any comment to make the headline they want. "did not break 10,000" "little disappointing" "stay-away fans" "I want the Barnsley public to come and support the team" - all Davey quotes from the same article that could have been used instead to create the exact opposite (and equally misleading) impression.
Crowds have never been great at Oakwell Promotion to Premiership season ...... 7 dec 96 Barnsley 3 - 0 Southend Att 7483 14 Dec 96 Barnsley 3 - 0 Tranmere Att 8513 Hammering teams, on the way to the promised land, **** crowds. To quote Toronto's finest, for all you Rush fans out there ..... Plus ça change, plus c'est la même chose
and now........... we are overpowering first and third in the table we still don't get huge crowds-twas ever thus
Not quite The period from 1978 to 1983 showed how we can pull in the crowds and Premiership and Play Offs apart, odd cup games since [Sheff U, Everton etc].
RE: Not quite 1984-85, season attendances went down, miners strike. Never really recovered till Premiership season.
