    Prematch Press: Barnsley v Birmingham

Written by Mark Stokes on Friday 6th March 2009

After a tough game against Cardiff, it will be another difficult game on Tuesday. Simon Davey held his pre-match press call at 12.30pm today.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

    Simon Davey:
On Saturday you watch the opposition when we have no games. I will be off to see Birmingham, someone at Blackpool. We look for their patterns of play and weaknesses and what we need to do to beat them.

I have seen Birmingham play on television recently so I am not unfamiliar with them. Saturday will be a chance to look at them and fine tune our tactics.

At St Andrews I felt we dominated most of the game. We have done really well at times this season and not come away with a result.

Birmingham's budget is huge, but have they got better players? The league might say yes but on any given day I think we can match them.

This time round we are a totally different team from earlier in the season. We have three home games now and there is no coincidence that when the fans get behind us our game rises.

I don't think Birmingham will sit back they will go for a win and that play will suit us.

Taking the referee away fro it we were not good enough on Tuesday. They looked stronger, more physical and better on the night.

Souza came off for a tactical reason and needed more strength and aggression in the back line.

We are constantly looking at contracts, assessing their performances, but the players have to fight for their contracts. We have to look where we are in the league, 20th, and if we keep them all will we be in a better position next season? There are players out of contract that I would like to keep.

We have a core group of players who are under contract to build from.

The most important thing is not a players future but the club's future.

Michael Mifsud is carrying a knock and has not trained and probably won't tomorrow, but I am hoping he will be fine for Tuesday night.

Well this bit doesn't make any sense ............

"We have three home games now and there is no coincidence that when the fans get behind us our game rises"

Reight Simon, how do you explain our abysmal away form then? because in my experience the fans at away games back the team from the first whistle to the last, even if there's 200 or 2000 there, unlike they do at home games.

    He talks some *****

We need a bit more than 'Fine Tuning' Simon

Like a new attitude and better tactics. The 3 next home matches will be no pushovers. If we do not get 6 points at least its going to be an uphill struggle to avoid relagation.
