From the official site POST MATCH REACTION FROM OAKWELLe Posted on: Tue 29 Jan 2008 REDS boss Simon Davey gave his thoughts following tonight's crucial win over Colchester United. Simon said: "I think we thoroughly deserved that. We played some fantastic stuff at times even though we had our keeper injured for most of the game. "Heinz (Muller) got a bang on his knee and we are not sure what is wrong with it. There is some instability there and we will have to wait and see how things go. "We scanned him at half time and that showed nothing serious but we had words in the dressing room and I won. "It is a gamble not to have a keeper on the bench but it is a calculated one and it could have backfired today. Thankfully it didn't. "I thought Diego (Leon) excelled out there today and I was thoroughly pleased with his performance".
"We played some fantastic stuff at times?" I'd be interested to see that 1/100th of a second highlight he's obviously referring to. It was dire, Simon. Absolutely shocking. We won because somehow Colchester, with a great deal of effort, contrived to be more **** than us.
"we had words in the dressing room and I won" Who did he have words with I wonder? The doctor/physio advising that muller didnt continue? Or muller himself saying he was unable to? And no it isnt a calculated risk, its a bloody stupid needless one.
Personally i think Davey hasnt got a clue! Why is Hassell playing CM? Surely Togwell should be in there. As Gaz said the only reason we won was because one season wonders Colchester contrived to be more **** than us
I'm not saying that. To be fair I haven't read that many. But it's hardly something you should be telling the media. I won ner ner ner ner.
Is he saying... that Muller didn't want to continue but he made him? Just because HE didn't have sound enough judgment to have a goalie on the bench? If so, that's very wrong
RE: "we had words in the dressing room and I won" It was blindingly obvious when Muller came out after half time that he didn't want to be there.
He got a standing ovation all the way from the halfway line to the Ponty End goal and made no attempt to acknowledge the crowd. Not like him at all.
He's been forced to play against his own better judgement and I think that's a disgrace.
How much more damage has been done and how long will he be out? To say nothing of the pressure on the rest of the team.
Daftest decision I've ever seen any Manager make.

I'm not comparing Davey to Clough except that one man's smugness is another man's 'man management'...... Bryan Robson....passionless, Steve Coppell, studious and reserved... it's all about perception
Bang on the knee? The guy was a cripple since the injury. Could have conceded at any time if Colchester had just humped the ball in the six yard box. Davey got it seriously wrong tonight but on the other hand he has signed a top player in Diego Leon and he has also got Jon Macken back. Let's keep giving him a chance and if we are going to start moaning then please at the end of the season. "We played some fantastic stuff at times" - rose tinted glasses and a bit over the top. "We had words in the dressing room and I won" - arrogance and we will see how long term the injury is.
Again.... ... first season outstanding, kept us up AND did the double at dirty leeds, second season 30 seconds from the playoffs... transfer pig out and down hill. Everyone remembers the end of his tenure. Agreed that his persona was shall we say 'not good'
RE: Bang on the knee? I wonder if he's made that comment as a joke rather than meaning it. Doesn't strike me as the arrogant type
he did to me when I talked to him but I might have caught him on a bad day, cant be the chirpy chappy all the time
