Is it me, or does he struggle to change formations during play - it's normally straight swaps only or lumping on an extra forward in the closing minutes. Here's somethings I noticed during the game and a changs I thought might have worked; 1) Stan and KO are too similar to play together - they were pretty much falling over each other and stod too close together - also Stan seems to be running with bricks on his feet - shadow of the player we signed last season who could close down at pace all game. 2) Everytime JCR got the ball he took too long doing fancy step overs which meant that he was continually double marked - this forced him to run inside into an already congested area as Howard, Hassel, Stan and KO all seemed to be standing within touching difference, meaning that there was no way JCR could thread any ball thorugh. 3) On the odd occasion that Disco or JCR did get behind the full back they opted for a quick cross - never once did they run into the box with the ball at feet, even though a defenders worst nightmare is someone with pace runing full tilt in the box with the ball at their feet - a penalty seemed like the only way we'd score, apart from a deflection or OG. 4) Van Homeot pushed up with Disco on the right and overlapped on occasions getting some crosses in (albeit sh!te ones) or allowing Disco time to put in a cross, like against Chelsea. Kozluk never made an effort to help JCR, so the amount of crosses he actually put in were minimal - although Werling wasn't the best defender he got forward, overlaped and crossed - is it a coincidence the goals have dried up since he's gone? 5) Free kicks and corners were gently floated in, giving the keeper plenty of time to clear them - whats wrong with the ball whipped in at pace that is hard to defend against - like the one Stan scored against Blackpool? Formation wise after around 50 mins when it was obvious Stan and KO weren't doing too wel I'd have been tempted to give JCR a free role behind KO, letting him run at defenders and replaced Stan with Leon. Mainly because JCR was forced in side all game therefore giving no attacking threat on left, plus him looking the most likely to make something happen. Anyone else notice these things - or was I watching a different game?
RE: Davey's tactics and thoughts on Wembley performance insisted continiually playing it through middle later end only to get bogged down in midfield ,should have played it wide to coulson let him do some running with the ball from down the left wing, totally on his own ,unmarked.
our corners were superb for about 4 home games in the middle of the season. but for some reason in recent games they've gone absolutely rubbish. I remember v Stoke etc we were wipping them in with a man on the keeper and causing all sorts of problems, seem to remember around the time of the Stoke game.
Agree, apart from VH criticism In the first half his crosses were whipped in with pace, into decent areas, however I'm not sure are strikers know how to head the ball with power. We must have tried to cushion header two or three goal scoring opportunities in the first half, and then there was the one where I think Oddjob just through himself towards the ball for the cameras when it looked a certain goal from our view.
Re: Davey's tactics and thoughts on Wembley performance Interesting what you say about Leon, because I said the same that I'd be tempted to shove him up front (but that was after Stan had gone off) with Coulson.
Re: Davey's tactics and thoughts on Wembley performance leon isnt quick enough to play upfront. he would be best inside mid or a holdin role for the quallity of his long ball passing and holding back would put him in a great position to shoot to say if the ball got cleared from the oppostions box for e.g. the volley he hit which got blocked at wembley, even though i encourage him in the starting team he has disapointed many this season but i believe he has still got a lot to prove.
