How can he be? - he's too old.

I think it's just because he's not in a position to take and play the squad he would prefer to (due to some players needing a rest, particularly the champions league players).

Was thinking he may be, because Capello trying about 4 or 5 out who will be captain whilst he's there, Beckham is 1 of them now.

I wouldnt read too much into it. He won't be in the running, it's most likely to please that Cancacaf arsehole.

Also, something that's been bugging me. Why do the Champions League Final players need the rest more than anyone else? They've only played one game more. What about the involved Portsmouth players, is Johnson in the squad?

I don't know what it is, but I have a strange sense of belief with Capello. I actually think we may be able to get somewhere with him.

It's cos he's actually in charge, rather than pretending to be.

The FA can't tell him what to do because he'll not understand them.

    It is because...

They are trying to get the world cup in 2018, and because Beckham is going to be an ambassador for it, they are making him captain for this match. Don't know why it makes a difference but I think it's so the Caribbean countries will support our bid because they love Beckham.

That's what it said on SkySportsNews anyway.

    RE: It is because...

I think it is probably because he is still the best option at RM. When it comes to crossing and dead ball striking he is still the best option. Bentley, Lennon, just pretenders at them moment. Beckham might not get around the pitch as well as he used to but when it comes to what you can do with the ball, he is probably still the best option. He will be in the squad (and team) until somebody proves they can replace him. Nobody has done yet.

I totally agree Cazi. I'm unsure what it is too, but there's definately something there that gives me hope.

Glad Becks has the armband anyway. Definately not too old either, some captains have been captain long into their mid-late 30's.
