Please, don't think this is another 'judge the player before you've seen him' or 'slate Keith Hill' post, because it's not. However, in all seriousness and fairness - why? Why have we signed a goalkeeper? We've got Joe Martin and Lukas Lidakivicius who can both sit on the bench, and to be fair, probably do a job if they were called upon.

We're probably safe. I can't see us getting many more points, but by that same token, I can't see the likes of Coventry, Doncaster and Portsmouth getting many more points.

Luke Steele hasn't been injured all season, sure there is always that first time, but so what if he does? Does it matter if we've got David Button or Iker Casillas between the sticks? The fact of the matter is that the 10 men in front of them aren't good enough, so it stands to reason that it really doesn't matter who's in goal. Sure, a good goalkeeper can win you matches, but you've also got to have the foundations in front to back him up - we haven't.

How much is it costing? If it's free - ok, that's fine, but I can't see it being and so my question comes full circle.

Why the hell have we signed David Button? Why the hell have we signed a goalkeeper? Why the hell are we (possibly) spending money on a non-essential signing at a point of the season where there is little to nothing to play for.

Another centre half or a striker, yeah, fair enough, but come on...

Judging by how much we have previously pissed up the wall on agents fees (justified by saying that all loan signings come with an agents fee) then I would suggest that even if we aren't paying a penny in wages we will still be paying for the agent to sort it all out. Waste of money, waste of time and denying valuable experience for a young lad.

I know it might be a bit petty but we've even got to pay for his training gear, meals and home and away shirt with his name and number on. Not exactly going to cost a million but it's just wiped out my season ticket money for the year and probably yours as well.

    95. Club appearances 31 England's caps at 4 different age groups, should Steele get injured who would you rather have in goal during a possible relegation battle?

    Button or Lidakivicuis?

Do you honestly believe we will slip into a relegation battle?

    I don't.

I believe (still) we'll get another 7 pts from the remaining games. Portsmouth are just about gone. I believe the remaining two places will be contested between Coventry, Doncaster and Bristol City. It would be a miracle (albeit, a terrible one) if we went down from the position we are now in, and to be honest, if we did go down, we'd damn right deserve to.

What was the post you started saying you couldn't see where the next point was coming from?

    Make your mind up.

I said we'd beat Peterborough and Brighton, and get a point at Bristol City.

Lovely way to avoid the question though.

No I don't think we well get sucked into a relegation battle, but if the worse did happen and we lost Steele I'd rather have a keeper with some experiance in goal ahead of a lad from the academy.

On that, I agree with you, however, what are the chances of Steele getting injured AND the likes of Coventry, Doncaster and Bristol City overturning a 13 point defecit and dragging us into the doldrums?

According to radio Dee Darr, Steele is out with an abdominal strain. So we need another keeper.
