That's what I thought, until I saw him take a corner, badly. Totally anonymous for me. A bit hard for me to make judgements though given that's only the second time I've seen him (not that I noticed him much in the Wednesday game either). Verdict: could do better.
I made a specific point of watching him and actually was impressed. he pushed everything they had in the middle out wide, won balls in our box including headers, held his position as holding mid so perks could push on second half. Never jumped in or committed himself. Quiet operator and would be impressive i think alongside an attacking mid. He isnt an attacking mid and that's obvious. I would however be interested to hear what people expect of him vs what play he actually is.
Can't agree with that. I'd like to know how many touches he had. Offers absolutely nothing. One of the worst individual performances I have seen in a long time.
I work with a guy from Norwich. Thinks fox is great and should be playing in the prem with them. He agreed that you dont notice him in games and he doesn't go kicking lumps out of people but as above says if you watch him he does at lot of work
I wasn't impressed with him in both yesterday's match and against Wendies. Seemed to lack involvement, and offered little going forward. I'd prefer Dawson in that position. He does a similar clearing up job, but also pushes forward far more often in support of the front two.
One of the worst individual posts I've read on here. Unbelievable how people can see such different things when looking at the same thing.
Dawson. Please god no. Tries hard but doesn't cut it. At least Fox does things neatly. Though I would prefer a midfielder who could actually create something occasionally to having two battlers in there.
You can have your opinion of course but to say it was one of the worst individual performances is, well in my opinion, very harsh. I think we've both seen much worse performances than that. I like him and I think it's no coincidence that we've improved since he came into the side. Hope he stays for the season.
What is it that he does so well then? Call me picky but I like my central midfielders to actually touch the ball every now and then and maybe even do something with it.
Passing. Not his best game yesterday, will give you that, but I like him. He reminds me of Ray McHale years ago, not sure if you remember him. He used to get slaughtered by the fans because he never did anything outstanding. His game was simple - get the ball and pass it to someone in a red shirt. I think that's what David Fox tries to do.
He plays pointless six yard square balls to others so they can do all the work. It wouldn't be as bad if he was winning the ball in the first place but he doesn't even do that. Ray McHale is before my time.
You like your central midfielders to be Neil Redfearn. Unfortunately, there's not many knocking about. He does what he's asked to do, sit relatively deep, find Mellis/McCourt as early as possible and keep the ball moving. The problem is that Perkins does something very similar which means we don't support the strikers early enough. There's massive responsibility on both Fox and Perkins to defend seeing as Mellis & McCourt don't do much - their job to cover and sit.
I like central midfielders to be of the Neil Redfearn ilk - can put their foot in, drive the ball forward and even score one or two. They can play it simple when needs be but having this as your only attribute seems pointless to me as it contributes nothing at either end.
