Earning twenty million pounds in a 25 year career that took in the premiership and playing for his country just wasn't enough for him to live off...... http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sport/fo...tml?ITO=1490&ns_campaign=1490&ns_mchannel=rss

Used to have a column in the Independent I think which was always really insightful and very well written. Of course it could have been extensively edited.
Bankrupt? Makes me laugh when 'rich' people declare themselves bankrupt. You're not bankrupt, you haven't got any brass. You're skint. Welcome to the way 95% of us live our lives. Well, I doubt it, I'm sure he'll come out of this living in a house and driving a car that the majority of us will never be able to afford. When I left Uni I signed on for 3 months until I go a job. After I'd paid the rent (housing benefit didn't cover it all) gas, leccy and water I had just under £4 per week for food. A bag a spuds, 7 tins a beans and a couple of pints of milk. That's ******* bankrupt mate. How hungry are you David?
Last I heard (only a month or so ago) he was opening a hotel of some kind in Iceland after playing/coaching with IBV last year.
Does sound like it started when his marriage broke down - I know he was sort of at fault for this but why should his ex-wife get a share of his future earning? I know someone personally who always seemed fairly well-off and suddenly declared bankruptcy - he did move to another house but probably isn't worth any less than his old one, not sure how that worked out, not really close enough to him to ask, but I doubt David James will be having to beg the council for a house either.
Very true, although I'd be surprised if there are any unemployed people having to live to those extremes these days, yet there are plenty of people with jobs that will have to.
unfortunately these people are relatively uneducated, have huge amounts of money thrown at them and get surrounded by parasites. like many other footballers, he will have probably been on the wrong end of some bad advice, at one time or another
I went on the insolvency register to find out his address, and then had a look at his house on Google Maps. Guess what? It's ******* massive. If his money trouble ever gets too much of a stress he can just do a few lengths in the swimming pool in his back garden to unwind.
I always thought he seemed relatively smart for a footballer. He's terrible as a commentator on BT Sport though.
Met him once for a work related thing he was promoting his art at the time and we were in the Lowry building. He compared his art to Lowry who he said was simplistic in comparison. I thought then perhaps you aren't the brightest bulb in the box... Anyway as others have said there's skint and bankrupt and he's probably neither. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk HD
I'm not an expert in matters of bankruptcy / insolvency but don't you have to sell your house as part of going bankrupt?
Brighter people than David James have gone bankrupt - richer people than DJ have gone bankrupt! It's not just a case of being skint, it's a state where an individual or a company's debts are bigger than their assets and are unable to repay those debts. Apparently, had he lived, Michael Jackson was heading rapidly towards it.
