Most clubs wait until after the World Cup to do their transfer business. Mourinho was very wise to flog him before the cameras started rolling.
I'm no sadist. I don't enjoy seeing people upset. I understand the Brazilian players were under tremendous pressure and the expectation was way too high for what was a very average team. Brazil did well to get to the semis, they probably over-performed. Just because you've got a great history, it doesn't mean the team you have right now are world beaters. However, it's very difficult to have any sympathy for David Luiz. Twice he threw out an elbow at opponents. Not when going up for a header, but with the intention of causing some damage when he was on the run. It was an unnatural movement of the arm, an attempt to strike the opposition player in the face. He may be able to run with the ball and pass, but that was probably the worst central defensive performance I've ever seen. If a Barnsley centre half played like that the Ponty End would have had him. It wasn't that he made mistakes. Every player has a nightmare every once in a while where even though they try, nothing comes off for them. Luiz demonstrated a complete lack of discipline and a total lack of effort. Trying and failing is always excusable. Not bothering isn't. He didn't track players, he didn't chase back, he didn't bother marking anyone, it was a shocking display. When Gazza cried it was because he'd given everything. There was nothing left to give other than tears. Luiz? I don't know why he cried. If he cared that much he should have done his job. Brazil would have still lost, Germany were much the better side. There's no shame in that. There's a lot of shame in the non-performance Luiz gave.
To be fair to Luiz he's absolutely brilliant alongside Silva so you can see why PSG want them together. However if Silva gets suspended / injured then I'd recommend dropping Luiz as well
