Who would you rather have playing for us, and why? I ask this, because opinion 'seems' divided on a fair few of our players, especially Perkins. So I'd like to gauge the BBS opinion more accurately.
Arismendi is a more talented footballer than Perkins. He might not have the headless chicken factor that has people fooled but he has more ability.
I agree that Arismendi is a more talented footballer but I wouldnt let the £3 million price tag fool me as we all know that transfer values don't necessarily reflect the real value of a player. Perkins is better value for money and I think describing him as a headless chicken is harsh. If I had to pick one over the other based purely on what I have seen them do in a Barnsley top I would have Perkins.
Yes it does show that BFC fans cant separate talent from endeavour! Arisbandit is by far the more talented player, but Perkins runs around a lot more, so in the eyes of the average BFC fan he is better! Strange way to spot ability.
That opinion would have more validity if you didn't hate a manager who is trying to get us playing good football
I think if the rest of the midfield is sorted as it was first half of last year with a couple of quality attacking players like Drinkwater and Butterfield (this season hopefully read Mellis and another) then Perkins fits in really well with that formation as he does the job he is supposed to extremely well - If we still had that midfield of Butts and Drinkwater I would have Perkins alongside them everytime over Arisemendi. Will he work as well with Mellis and...probably Dawson? who knows, maybe not - only time will tell, a lot depends on what type of player Dawson proves to be too, if he isnt too similar to Perkins then being the optimist - the vote from me goes to Perkins
or maybe the people who voted for perkins cant actually recall this so called talent arismendi apparently has
I like David Perkins So I must obviously be amongst those Barnsley fans who are incapable of seeing he does nothing but run around a lot. I only wish I was as clever & knowledgeable as those condescending visionaries who, unlike myself, haven't been fooled by Perkins' lack of ability or positive contribution to the team. It seems I only have an opinion, whereas they are stating a fact. I'm not a real fan.
I dont hate the manager. I dislike his accent. Which is totally different and overlooked by people that cant read!! Now Davey , I hated with a passion, Robins , I never felt one way or the other about.
Re: I like David Perkins Kev, tell me what he is good at. I keep asking this from others but never get a reply, only abuse. I think we have better players , more skilled players, but Perkins seems to be admired more and I dont understand what it is that makes it so. I m not saying anyone is wrong, they have their opinions and are rightly entitled to them. But I am totally baffled.
To be fair to madmark there's accents that I can't stand to listen to and I kind of get where he's coming from with our keef and his accent another one is Steve Bruce, I couldn't stand listening to him because it always sounded like he was bunged up,
You do realize that you have just blown all your credibilty , dont you? I mean agreeing with me is the pits!! I have never understood why I have to like Hills accent? That does not make him a bad manager, his record last season points wise made him statistically the worst manager we have had, but that counts for nothing apparently, because we lost our midfield .
Sorry about the delay, mate I've been resting my weary bones from the dig. The other day I cut my finger on a blade of grass. Ooh, it hurt just like a paper cut. Still managed to find a small piece of worked flint, possibly from the Neolithic period. Perkins always makes himself available to team mates for a pass, never hiding. Whenever he receives the ball, he then plays it fairly simple, but usually meaning we keep possession. If the opposition have the ball, he's usually the first one there to close them down, tackling, making things difficult, forcing them backwards or even to lose possession. His willingness to do all this necessary yet unspectacular work played a large part in enabling Jacob Butterfield to show his creativity & vision in a more advanced area of the field, without having to worry too much about any defensive duties. He doesn't thunder into the tackle like an Alan Little, or Neil Redfearn. For all his efforts, enthusiasm and energy, he never looks capable of getting the amount of goals we used to see from (for example) Brendan O'Connell, another player accused of being a headless chicken. Despite all that, I still like him and feel he makes a positive contribution. I don't mind people having differing opinions to me on anything, mate. However, it narks me when folk choose to pass their opinions off as statements of fact and condescendingly claim that anyone who thinks otherwise are inferior in their knowledge of the game.
I've explained to you (Mark) and others, just why I like Perkins, and what he brings to this current Barnsley setup, many many times. In fact, I gave a good evaluation of him in the Rob Staton thread. He's tireless, gets in the opponents faces, breaks up play which often sees us regain possession/begin our own moves, and he rarely gives the ball away either. I'm more than aware of his limits though, but in THIS setup, under THIS manager, he's a must starter. He allows others - Butterfield, Drinkwater, Vaz Te last season - to do their stuff. Often, so much of his good work goes unnoticed. And your opinion of him, is a case in point. Some just can't see what he offers, and that's fair do's. Opinions opinions.
Got to agree with that. He was gash for us. Perkins every time. He may be just average as a footballer (I actually think he has a decent touch just lacking a bit in creative vision/ability) but he gives a hell of a lot more to the team than Arismendi ever did.
