Murray playing the singles final on BBC2 now. Some really enthusiastic fans in there, on both sides. Mostly respectful but some idiot just blew a trumpet or something when the Belgian lad was about to serve. It's certainly not Wimbledon
I like it, more noise the better. They wanted their own country to win and there is nothing wrong with being patriotic. Think the sports governing body wants the fans to be too quiet and respectful. Imagine same happening in football....Weird a country (or group of them in our case) can win the whole thing with one good player. Basically me or you could have played two single ties, got thrashed and because Andy is good enough to win the other three ties we could still call ourselves Davis Cup champions. He's put himself in the top ten SPOTY shortlist for sure alongside Ennis Hill who should walk it, Vardy, Fury, Root etc.
I'm not normally one for watching tennis, not even Wimbledon apart from the odd snatch of a game here and there. But yesterday I watched Murray win his match and was gripped by it. There were brilliant shots and there were terrible, amateurish shots but whatever happened the crowd were on their feet after every point won or lost. I've never seen anything like it and this really was a different crowd. Just as I indicated in the title with cricket, it is as if there are two different types of the sport, attracting a different type of supporter. The Belgians really went to town with the guy on the megaphone leading the chanting and the British had a band playing their ditties to get their lot worked up. Apart from the idiot who let off the air horn just as the Belgian was about to serve it was remarkably well behaved. Quite an eye opener really. Good result in the end but what a shame we don't have an Englishman to lead the way.
Yeah the atmosphere is fantastic, it's been a cracking achiement etc it's just odd you can win something so major with just one good player. Andy Murray won us 11 out of the 12 rubbers we had to win to win the whole thing. He could have had his two singles, played doubles with his brother and me and you lost the other two singles matches and we'd have still won the whole thing and we'd be able to technically call ourselves winners too. Probably should be a rule change that nobody can play three consecutive days so they aren't reliant on just one player. We beat France but they have like 10 players in the top 100 which I wish we did. Even a small country like Switzerland have two top ten players.
Its hardly a shame we dont have an englishman to lead the way! Andy Murray is British. He represents a team called Great Britain last time i checked.
