I think at the least he'll be out for a month, as the club were hoping it was ankle ligament damage, and nothing more serious. I suspect ankle ligament damage is pretty serious itself. As I said the other day, if we're looking for a silver lining, I think it confirms that when he recovers from injury, he'll still be wearing a Barnsley shirt, all being well.
I spoke to him after the game on Saturday And he looked in a bad way, but was pretty confident that it hadn't swollen up too badly at all and with some injections would be back playing pretty quickly. Fingers crossed it's weeks rather than months.
Bobby is the obvious choice to cover Dawson. Cranie has done it plus we have Digby or maybe even Mcnulty? Dawson will be missed though he has been excellent and gives everything.
I'm really not sure Bobby is the natural choice to replace Dawson. Bobby is the natural choice to place as holding midfielder but Dawson is so much more than that. He brings pace, energy, and forward drive to us. Plus he gets in to the box and scores goals. Big loss
Recently Dawson has been bombing forward while Perkins has been holding back. If you brought Bobby in to the side then he would be the one that stayed back while Perkins would be the mobile one. Or summat.
Agree with that. Although you'd still have sacrificed some of the high tempo way we're playing in doing so cos Perkins is still like an annoying mosquito even when holding
It's probably irrelevant because I don't think Flitcroft will go that way. Bobby would be the first name on my team sheet. I think he'd be ideal in the back three we're currently adopting, or as the holding midfielder now that Dawson is injured, but I don't think Flitcroft sees it like that. His prerogative, he's doing well his way. No matter how well a manager is doing we'll always have our favourites who we think are being unfairly overlooked.
Don't get me worng, I'd do exactly as you suggested, but it would necessitate playing a different way. One though that certainly could be equally as effective. Bobby holding, Perkins box to box, Mellis in the Butterfield role. But I still think we'd miss Dawson, our best player this year
Kelvin Etuhu who replaced Dawson at Portman Road, did a very decent job in that midfield role. I've never seen him work as hard; he was getting in early when they had possession, harrying, and tackling well, and quite a revelation in fact. It was a side to his game I'd not seen before. He was very highly motivated.
Etuhu deffernatly has the ability no doupt about it....think his mentality lets him down.....could be another polished turd in the making....looked good against Ipswich
