Some of the stick he gets at times really winds me up

Yes. The Huddersfield incident was stupidity on his part but the stick towards him had been going on long before that.

If all the players put in as much effort as Dawson then Barnsley would be safe in mid table. Some say he hasn't got any talent but his goals against Southampton and Reading should prove otherwise, both great strikes. He is always making driving runs forward to move the team up the pitch and his passing is okay too

Sure his first touch is bad but all players have weaknesses to their game. I'm glad Dawson was kept by Wilson and it was Perkins that was sold and no matter what division we're in next season, it would be bad for Barnsley if Dawson wasn't still here

I wish we could get rid of Perkins AND Dawson. Both crap.

Seems that giving "100%" is enough for most Barnsley fans. Shame.

I completely agree JW, if we stay up he will have played a big part in our survival. I just wish some of our more naturally gifted players had the same work ethic and spirit as dawg.

I'd take 100% than not giving a **** every day! But if we could have Butterfield, Drinkwater, Vaz Te, Howard et al back in there BFC prime of course I'd take that! But we can't. We haven't the funds to sustain those players who need or want to depart. Which bit of that don't folk get?!?

If Dawson was a 12-15 goal a season midfielder, who could pick out 60 yard cross field balls out then he'd be in the same boat and sold!

I wish he was. So Danny could have sold him in Jan for big £'s and spent it on his own players! But that hasn't and won't happen. So keep the 100% up Daws! It appreciated from me at least.

That 2nd line of your post is so tedious Conan. Of course it's not enough but he is our player and he offers more than most of our CMs do to the team. The shame is you can't see it. Who would you be playing in there? From players on our books?

It is not enough, its the bare minimum we expect. We pay our hard earned cash to watch these players put a shift in, and some can't oblige to that. That's why for me I'd like to see more of Dawson, and less of the likes of Mellis.

And I dont care what you say, but Dawson offers more to the team than just effort.

No more tedious than constantly hearing how he gives 100%.

If you have a team full of talentless toilers you end up in the bottom three. Simple as that.

Probably because Dawson only played eight times when Flitcroft got the job. Of which we won two and lost 6-0 to Charlton when he was sent off.

    Hardly instrumental in our survival.

How many games did Perkins and kelvin play ? You might not like that type off midfielder but it's what you need in this league you go on about Paddy should be starting but he's just same as the toilers as you call them but opposite way round he's all skill and no graft where as the toilers are other way round what we need is players that can do both but they're on 15 grand a week so we've got to go with one or other graft or talent and Danny's gone for work rate

So your not gonna say who you would be playing there out of the players we have on our books that are available. Shame, but no surprise.

Dawson it's a difficult thing to judge if you cut across all the he gives 100 percent but he's ***** ********. Both arguments are both true and false at the same time.

He is a wholehearted committed player who can tackle and will be an asset if he stays and we and go down. There is a big myth that he played a major part in our survival last season which is just that a myth given that he was injured or suspended for the majority of games. Under Flitcroft thus season he was consistently terrible when played either in his natural role or out wide. Since Danny came back he has improved significantly though equally obviously Frimpong was brought in to replace him.

The major issues with Him are that his control is absolutely woeful often looking more like a shot and his passing even his short passing is equally terrible. Unfortunately these two aspects often undo all his good work in harrying and hassling the opposition as he just gives them the ball back inviting more pressure. His inability to retain and use the ball even in the simplest terms has cost us dearly this season and alongside his midfield colleagues he has been responsible for the amount of pressure our creaking defence has been under. In this respect it's not enough to say if he could pass he would be playing at a higher level. I don't particularly want a 'hod carrier' to hit 50 yard passes just control a simple ball and make a simple pass.

At the same time in retrospect the desire and passion he demonstrated at Huddersfield, although misplaced, show his passionate committed nature. Given Frimpong's attitude this is all we have to rely on at the moment fragile as it is and that desire and commitment took him into the area to score our first against Reading.

If we stay in the Championship is Dawson good enough to take us forward? I'd say the answer is clearly no as I think it's hard to imagine anyone outside the bottom 4 employing him. We need to move past the 'special people' and uncover some footballers who can at least offer commitment and an ability to do the simple things well. Do we need him now of course we do.

But we don't and Dawson is not a talentless toiler. Based on recent performances I'd rather have Dawson in the team than Mellis.

It's all about blend, you need a variety of different types of players to form a good side. Look at our promotion season - Stumpy for example. Signed for peanuts from non-league footy and nothing but a horrible little player if you were playing against him. Not a lot of skill but because he was 'in-yer-face, at-yer-ankles' he was an important cog in the machine. The promotion team was a sum of its parts, and I see the potential for Danny to do that again, given time.

Do you think a team full of Makelele's would have won Chelsea the league? Not a prayer. Similarly would a team full of McCourt's be a successful one? No chance. If we were in a relegation dogfight then I sure as hell would prefer 11 Dawson's than the same number of Paddy's.

The main difference between Dawson and Sheridan is that Darren could play a simple pass and control the ball. I'd rather support Manure than watch a team full of Dewson's though no offence to Stephen there we need him now we also need to get shut if we stay up.

I'd play Mellis over Dawson every time.

you rebel. you just went from one end of the spectrum to the other there, didn't you? from someone who gives 100% every minute he's on the pitch, to someone who doesn't give a ****

I've said about 100 times that I think Mellis is a good player.

    Talent will out my dear.
