Quick update folks, we've agreed a title for the BFC film. It'll be called Daydream Believers - pretty self explanatory I'd hope.

We've also just released a snippet of Neil Redfearn talking about why he joined us in the first place...

Good 'ol Redders. Gave his all every time he played for the Club. Gutted when he left for Charlton.
One of the many heroes I've admired for their loyal service down the years since I've been watching the Reds.

Shafted by the board who refused to give the captain and top scorer parity with the likes of Tinkler.

Thought I'd read at the time that Redders wanted another pop at the prem league before he finished , which imo said a lot about the board.

Perfectly understandable that he should take the Charlton offer when it came up. He might never have got another chance to play in the Premier League - even if he had stayed and we had gone up the following year he might not have been seen as good enough for a second crack at that level.

He said at a supporters club meeting that he left because he was on literally half the wages of Eric Tinkler and Georgie hristov and the board refused to increase his wages in line with them despite him being the captain and top goalscorer. He said that the boards attitude towards letting the best players go (ie forcing Wilson to sell and specifically them refusing to try to keep the captain) was also one of the main reasons that Wilson left us for Wednesday because he felt like he was having his hands tied behind his back.

He left after Danny from memory. Danny not once mentioned anything to do with his hands being tied behind back when I spoke to him - purely the draw of Wednesday & he'd have never have left if they hadn't been the ones to come in for him.

I think that he left after him but knew he was leaving due to the pay issue or something. Redfearn may have been wrong about Danny's reason for leaving but it was what he said (and was agreed with by neil Thompson I think).

Anyway I love the title for your documentary. Seen as that's what the threads about

    Ha - cheers.

And Neil did say the same in terms of he wanted parity with the new players. Looking back, 32 years old, year left on his contract etc & a million + quid seems decent business by the board (emotions aside, obviously)

Danny was on the beach in Mallorca when he found out the board had sold Redders,... his captain ....behind his back...hence Danny boy signed for the Fowls,

I was on the buses all that time and a lad worked with us who also worked on the turnstiles many years, and he told us at Christmas, half way thru the season, that Danny was going to Wednesday whether we stopped up or not.

That's certainly not the story I was told by either John, Danny or Neil.

Neil was still at the club when Danny left and he said to me he'd have liked a conversation about taking over as a senior pro like Hendrie.

Regardless of what did/didn't/might have happened the promotion and Premier League seasons will always be memories to treasure. In all my years I have never known anything that united or excited the town (even non-football followers) like the club's progress those two seasons. Every game was a cup final. It still brings a tingle down my spine to think about that Bradford game, or the cup replay wins against Spurs and Man United. And that title is brilliant - I never could get that tune out of my head when I think about that promotion season!
