The happenings AFTER the game at Huddersfield lulled everybody in to a false sense of security which lasted throughout the summer. When business on the pitch resumed in August it became blatantly obvious, to me anyhow, how lucky we were at Huddersfield. We went into that game with our destiny in our own hands, yes thanks in no small way to Flitcroft, and then, despite knowing we weren't at that point safe, proceeded to encourage Steel to keep the ball in his own area for several minutes. History tells us that Peterbro conceded a last second goal that saved is, but that on its own showed the ultimate idiocy of the coaching staff to allow that to happen. the summer came and went the autumn has come and nearly gone and people are saying these next matches will kick start our season, in my opinion Flitcroft should have had his kicktart by the end of August, saying "improve or go". Flitcroft is what's gone wrong at Oakwell.
Given it some thought over last few weeks and tend to agree, Pedersen could just be good enough to save Flitcroft, massive few days in that case cos if he goes to Norway and gets injured again, it'll be curtains.
So you're having a go at him for Steele keeping the ball for 85 seconds. Instead, you wanted us to continue going for another goal despite knowing that if Huddersfield came up the other end and scored we'd definitely be down? And not only that, at the end of August (about 5 games) you also believe that we should have sacked him. Flitcroft is exactly what's gone right here these last 10 months. Full stop.
of all the flicker-bashing that's gone on over the last few weeks, i've seen very few suggestions of a replacement. essentially just whinging.
at 2-2 and peterbro still drawing we were down and yes end of august outlined things were desperately wrong.
Not sure how you wanted us to perform knowing Posh were losing ? We were down at Christmas btw, before Flitcroft got the job. This season is the test. We're 11 games in and it looks like he's trying to address the issues to be fair to him.
Steele started holding the ball when word came in that Peterborough were losing. When they were drawing we were going all out to win.
Absolutely correct Dyson. The holding on to the ball only happened once news had come in that Posh were losing. This was obvious as both benches and players were encouraging Steele to keep it. In fact, it was slightly before this as I seem to remember their player launching an aimless ball (under no pressure) out for a goal kick. Prior to that, both teams had attacked each other repeatedly and given everything for the cause. And even if you are of the opinion that this was the wrong tactic, the 'idiotic' coaching staff had performed a small miracle enabling us to have any chance of staying up come the last day.
You've got it wrong. Steele didn't keep hold of the ball until after Palace scored and he had heard the news. He kept hold of the ball because he knew if both results remained the same we stayed up. It was over 2 minutes after Palace took the lead before Steele started messing about with the ball.
you're wrong. in actual fact, we were still attacking for about a minute after news of palace's 3rd goal came through, as it took that long to get to the players.
Back to the original topic though...I wonder if The Star journalists actually get paid, for coming up with absolute bollock$ non-stories like this?
But Steele didn't play keep ball until news spread that Palace had scored. It could have backfired on us but so could going for a winner.
