Now we are half a season in what’s everyone’s views of DC so far I think it’s been a really encouraging start from him. I don’t think he’s been blessed with fantastic player recruitment and so he has had an uphill task. I would say he is performing slightly above expectations. He’s seems pretty good in the media, often sees the game as I do and not a warped version of it. Possibly hangs his players out to dry a little too much but I get the impression he’s a bit of a disciplinarian. I reckon have seen a number of players improve under him and I think it is important that we stick with him, to enable us to find some stability at the club, something that has been severely lacking for one reason or another. It looks like we are decent bet for the play offs and I’ve certainly enjoyed the football more under him that’s Collins. It also feels like we are making steady improvement as we did under Duff. If we don’t go up then it would be good to see him allowed back up build something over a few transfer windows. 8/10 good start
I think your score is fair is he a master tactian no but I think he's a hard working bloke who cares. I like after games he sees what I see most of the time, given time and a fair wind I think he will get us out of this division
He definitely watches the same game as me, even yesterday he mentions that the last 25 minutes were really poor so for me he’s doing well and patience is required.
I'm happy and would like to see the rare event that is our head coach achieving a second season here. His main actions that perplex me are..... a) occasionally leaving his best team on the bench before realising his strongest team/formation after an hour. b) routinely making random substitutions, after an hour, for the sake of it, when those coming off have played well/ those coming on weaken the team. c) persisting with Sam Cosgrove in any capacity when it is obvious to all that we immediately go down to 10 men when this happens. He's still learning. 7¼
I liked his post-game from yesterday, too. The summation of the first 65 versus the last 25 was accurate. He was happy with what he saw, without going over the top, and pointed out areas of improvement. I wasn't too bothered with his player criticism and banter with the press earlier in the season, as some were, but he seems to have taken the feedback onboard, from what I see in his recent pressers.
I've been critical of his reluctance to give Nwakali more starts, amongst other things, but, overall, I think he's doing a decent job. If we lose our next 4 games, I suspect that many people, me included, will think otherwise, but I don't think we will lose our next 4 games. The players seem to be playing for him, and several have improved during his tenure, while none, in my opinion, has regressed. I think Clarke's position is looking pretty secure at the moment, and I am happy with that.
7 - 8 /10 Solid enough but a short period where I struggled to see what he was actually about. Just once though, Id like to be having this convo after we've kept a gaffer as long as Bolton have kept Evatt. Hoping for 2 or 3 years of patience from us.
Bit inconsistent some strange selections and substitutions sometime they work sometimes they don't. Better football to watch than last season which is a distinct + and some players seem to be much better under him - Russell, O'Keefe, Watters for example. Still seem to get our tactics wrong for the last 3rd of a game when ahead far too often but definitely more +'s than -'s The way we bounced back after the Orient debacle is particularly impressive 7/10 from me
In view of the quality and imbalance of the squad, I reckon he's done well to get us to where we are. No complaints from me. 8/10
He has done ok and will definitely get the benefit of the upcoming transfer window. Two week ago I believe he was maybe on dodgy ground especially if you were to read a lot posts on here. But he’s had a tremendous last 4 results and now we pushing for play offs again, I said 2 week ago we should review at end of the season and still think we should. Unfortunately you don’t get as much time as you used to in football management, but it’s in his own hands for me, a strong finish to season and whether we go up or not he will be in prime position to carry on. Let’s see where we are in May with this fella.
I think we all thought 4th or 5th was probably going to be a best case scenario at the start of the season. Birmingham, Huddersfield, Wrexham and Rotherham were all expected to be above us, and Peterborough, Bolton, Charlton and Reading all expected to push on. I disagree that he makes random substitutions/team selections. He’s clearly based selection on the team we are facing, and subs based on fitness levels, illness, highly injuries etc. If we are still in 5th at the end of the season he will have definitely got a 9/10. If we get promoted 10. For now I’ll leave him at an 8.
Solid. Seven out of ten. Tactically baffling at times but improving all the time. Still makes the odd bizarre change though his substitutions yesterday were the right decisions in the circumstances so he’s shown to be growing there too. His biggest plus is for me - he’s improved players, Russell and O’Keeffe come to mind in particular. Whilst we have the odd aberration still, we have improved defensively as the season has gone on as well. He’s progressed from six to seven in my view in the last month or so. The team is improving and he hasn’t had the greatest deck of cards to deal. I’m not convinced he’s a fantastic head coach but he’s certainly not the worst and he’s earnt the rest of the season, and this window to get more balance.
I'd relieve him of all substitution duties. He's had a go at them, he can't do them, so let someone else have a go. Other than that, yeah fine, crack on.
I think your right he is learning but I think now he's got a core of players he trusts which I think has got a bit bigger recently with the addition of Mccarthy. The Cosgrove one I think he knows what he is and he's only getting minutes because we haven't got a viable option in that position.
Actually you’re right I’d like to revise it to 6.5 out of 10 as he loses a point for the Gilet, plus .5 of a point for his hats. The only man north of 40 that can pull off a baseball hat is @Terry Nutkins
