.... on the back of your very commendable press conference, regarding the whole club, and getting families into the club. Here is a suggestion. Sacrifice the salary of one player. Let's imagine that player is on £2k a week. = £102,000 a year. Instead of having that player on our books, give an opportunity to an academy player, and with the savings, get in a sh#t hot marketing person whose role is to get bums on seats, families through the door, and sell the club to the community, and to local commerce. We don't have any such dedicated member of staff, and the difference that person could make to our club would be huge. That person could be tasked with building the whole day experience you describe for match days. One player less, one opportunity more for one of our kids, and a chance to really, properly market our club.
I'm not usually one to defend him but isn't that exactly what Mark Stokes does? The problem isn't his ability (I don't think), it's that he has no budget at all. If Keith Hill thought keeping us in the championship was like walking a tight rope with two broken legs then being in charge of marketing at Oakwell is like trying to walk a tight rope with no legs at all, and no rope either.
No, that is not what he does ! It maybe his job title, but he is not there to do that. He is there for a totally different purpose altogether !
Being back Gerry Whewall and his half time spinny tombola thingy sat upon a coffee table adorned with net curtain.
Oh he definitely is, maybe not on Saturday evenings in late May though! He is definitely on this site though.
No I didn't. Just got in, logged on and posted within seconds of seeing the reference to a net curtain.
I'll do it for a lot less than £104k or even £102k. I'll even lick the envelopes to get the renewal packs out on time. There's a positive mood at the moment and we really need to capitalise on it.
Rachel Hearne is marketing and hospitality manager. Lovely lass, but trying to do way too much. In the current climate, I think it would be good for able people to offer up skills through the supporters trust until a time when the club can afford to employ designated staff. I've offered up my modest services, bog cleaning and the like.
There are some good minds and probably every trade known to man, in the Barnsley fan base...believe it or not. There's loads that could be done for free(ish). Would also reinforce (wont say galvanise) the bond between fans and Club. I may compose a letter
