....I can't do your 60 years but I can claim 50. We've definitely had worse teams than this. You've seen them and so have I and so have thousands of others. The current malaise / problem is the " i want it and I want it now" approach in every aspect of our lives (ref looting) I'm as pissed off and disappointed as anyone on this forum, but wanted to let the world turn once before opinionating. The feeding frenzy which started during the game, and which has continued relentlessly since the final whistle was blown last night does us no good. Will the piranhas please leave it alone now? The passion we all have is amply demonstrated on this board and it shows how much we all care. Moaners will moan, optimists will be positive and start a rallying crusade. I believe he can turn it around. He certainly needs to prove his battling qualities and his worth. Strength comes in adversity and fighting back. If he adopts a siege mentality and results start changing I'll be delighted and he will win people back. I was sold on his promises, and the dream of the passing game etc; I even loved the Bolton working class lad with his Manc Gallagher Swagger.....it's a different world now Keith. I'm a fan and feel let down but I still believe in what you're trying to achieve. Truth is you've underestimated the quality of this league and a major re-think is required. Win us all over with something cnstructive about how you will change things. We need to give the man and his team time. Rome.....day...........and all that. O'Driscoll, Wilson at BFC, Ferguson etc...they were all given time. It's pointless people saying he should go now. That will achieve fook all. We're three games in with 43 to go. His interview might have offended some but it did carry with it some stark realities. As fans we should be entitled to dream (particularly when we've been promised better things) but we should also recognise we cannot buy our way out of trouble / the status quo. His work ethic appears good and he seems to want to turn things around. We should support him in his attempt. If he continues to fail he will go. He knows that. When he came I predicted that he would fall out with the fans because "we" wouldn't have the patience with the passing game and he seems like a man who is highly principled. It's happened already. Let's try and change the atmosphere into something more positive and support and surprise him. Oh and Bobby most definitely does need bringing back. x
Good post mate.... You see we really only have two choices.....to support or not.... Because if we go to war with the club......if we win, we still lose....
Re: Good post mate.... Agree! I heard on the radio earlier that the Leicester fans were booing on saturday when they failed to win.
Re: Good post mate.... good post and comments think hill would have to turn it round like yesterday to get fans off his back but think pc will give him time like he did with davy.i can go back 46 years and i must have seen some bad performances especially in lower leagues. worst case of manager baiting was jim illey. this bloke came to our club with absolutely no money to spend and insructions to sell players.he begged borrowed and stole players from all over and took a struggling club from the bottom of div 4 to top half of table increased crowd from4000+ to 6&7000+ and improved clubs finances, but the extra fans turned on him when the team failed to get pr
It goes both ways though,Hill has been very quick to slag the fans, play the 'little club with no money' card, quite frankly some of his interviews have been car crashes. Inexperience is one thing, arrogance is another
Re: Good post mate.... Marlon my Friend....................that's called PERSPECTIVE!!....; a quality sadly missing amongst our fellow brothers-in-arms. My other perspective right now = several glasses of red, more distance from the disgrace of tuesday and renewed belief that Hillcroft can turn it all around arse over tit.
Point taken. However the fans' impatience was poisonous and unnecessary. I was also shocked and felt let down but didn't boo. His comments on the fans were accurate. Players won't respond to the fans baying for their blood, nor will it do their confidence any good. Patience is key. "Little club with no money" ????? - that's what we are. That's our reality, that's the beat of our drum, our rhythm, our life as fans.....little club with no money. That's the truth. Can't understand why people are getting so worked up 'bout that. The point is, even though we are that very thing, we can still dream and we can still achieve things. His interviews could be viewed as car crashes..........that's because he feels the hurt, understands the game and wants to get things mended. He is inexperienced, but I'm thinking you're mistaking his swagger / attitude for arrogance. We're from Barnsley and we should make him feel welcome. He wants success for our club - just like us. Patience is a virtue and that's a cliche but **** its true. x
Re: Good post mate.... as you say you have to let the world turn a while to try and get a clear picture. we all know players dint perform and its not acceptable, but to expect manager to come on radio and blast his players after 3 lgue games just wasn't going to happen course he's gunna stick up for em. but the players have got to take the responsibility for not trying regardless of poor tactics or not.hope he makes them realise that fact n quick.
whilst im still his biggest fan... i wasnt exactly impressed at being lumped in with the boo-boys. he could have mentioned the negative 'minority' or after his thoughtless and patronising rant, he could have added "but i want to thank those supporters that stood by us, and got behind the lads. im not attributing blame at any supporter totally, and certainly not the majority who are probably as fed up of the jeering few as me and the players" or sumat..
Re: whilst im still his biggest fan... i don't think anybody's coming out of this wi any credit, players' club, manager or fans think we all need to draw breath and rethink.hopefully and my fingers are tightly crossed these two away games will turn everything around.
I think you are over stating the negative 'flavor' ,as Hill put it,on Tuesday.Booing at half time and full time with the odd groan at a mis placed pass or indecisiveness of a player was about as bad as it got. Many times the atmosphere against the team/manager at Oakwell has been far more intense, I didn't hear any chants of 'Hill Out' !! As for small club and fans understanding reality, there isn't another club in the football pyramid that can boast a longer period of time playing in the second tier,25 out of 30 years in this division and being in the top half of supported clubs in the country is hardly being a 'small club'.When Cryne took over after the Admin/Doyle era we were still subject to Admin restrictions but Cryne sacked the manager for dropping out of the play-off places in League 1 , Andy Ritchie was sacked for suggesting we couldn't compete for a PLAY-OFF spot in the Championship and standing by the players that got promotion, with the fans chanting 'one Andy Ritchie' ......its not the fans who need to manage their expectations. Patience is a virtue but six hours without a Barnsley player scoring is a sin ,if Hill thinks the booing was unwarranted and he didn't understand why it happened it suggests to me that heres a bloke who has never sat in the stands as a fan......its not Barnsley fans who need a dose of reality, we know when a team is doing their best but getting genuininely out classed '6-5 we're going to win 6-5' remember that ?! and we know when we are being short changed. If Hill really does have faith in his players he wouldn't be looking for scapegoats and excuses ,the fans and lack of budget, after only 3 league games.
