After reading Dragon Tykes thread, has it been discussed about the new debit cards that are being issued. My son had three different cards scammed whilst they were in his wallet. As long as the thieves do not take big payments out the bank do not pick it up. On two of the cards they took some small payments out up to £20 then tried to buy a flight to Dubai, and the other a television. These alerted the bank and my son was informed. He has received compensation for these two. The other card was always used for small amounts until this was picked up. They get the details off your card with some electronic device whilst you are stood near them with your wallet still in your pocket. To prevent this you need to buy of Amazon an aluminium foil small wallet to slip your card in, then it cannot be scammed Sorry if posted before.
That's just being paranoid. Wrapping cards in silver foil.. Lol Cards can be cloned without being near the original card. You can generate card numbers on your computer and test if it's valid by small purchases on less secure sites. Used to be web hosting sites. I've had cards cloned that have never been out the house. Always had it flagged up and never beeneft out of pocket. Just a bit of hastle having new cards issued. ApplePay is the furure though. Fingerprint and mobile. Been using it for past month or so. No need to carry cash or you cards. Went to pub at lunch time. Beer + mobile. Ding!
We got scammed recently being going off since march £4.20 a month collected from our account by one of those save money discount offers on all purchases. Neither me or the mrs recall signing up for the membership we supposedly had, it was only when we were having a overall of our account we questioned each other about it.we are still at a loss how they managed it
I've had something very similar to you Shed131, every month I get scammed for quite a bit of cash by the Inland revenue. I've tried to stop it and claim it all back but they just keep taking more.
Being paranoid??? This was not one card but three cards in his wallet. Now that has not come from playing on a computer and having a bit of luck. Hope it does not happen to you wiz kid. All our family have a small tin foil wallet to put the card in and then it is safe in our wallets, get them off Amazon. Better safe than sorry. Like Dragon Tyke said, you cannot help some people
So 3 cards in his wallet got cloned by someone walking past him? Were all of these contactless or just regular credit / debit cards? Even with contactless, the power to read the cards antenna comes from the device you have to touch with the card. The distance has to be less than 5cm. For something to read and decode 3 separate cards in one go, that's some trick. More likely his wallet was lifted, cards cloned and then wallet replaced. Or he's used them online or somewhere and they haven't stored the card details securely and it was hacked. Or as in the article from the Guardian, he's used chip and pin as well as contactless at the same time as they've had their wallet next to or on the device. http://www.theguardian.com/money/shortcuts/2013/may/20/contactless-payments-consumer-affairs and it touches on the foil lined wallets. This is probably a more realistic scenario. But I very much doubt it could read 3 cards in one go. http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencet...sy-steal-credit-card-numbers-air-SECONDS.html I'm interested in what you say, don't dismiss it as not being able to help someone. I'm just not convinced.
I've been getting scammed for hundreds every year. Paying thru the turnstile to watch the Super Reds!
Mate I am not interested what you say no more. I have my card in a foil wallet . You do whatever you need to do. Good luck
Have you got the link to where they can buy flights to Dubai or a TV for £20 - I'd be interested in that!
The flight was picked up because it was around £700, the television about £390, the smaller amounts are not as obvious
