Dissapointed if we only get £500k for him..... if the blues are interested price will hopefully rise I'd have expected £1.5m, but been happy to drop to £1m any less is criminal when you consider players such as Tonge were sold for over £3m..... But if this reported deal £500k + a player it may not be so bad, depending whom that player is. Even if Sheff Utd have agreed £500k + player deal, I can't say as I'd be happy. A steal at that price, that is unless Beattie or Sharp came the other as part of the deal. But they only have a small squad and there are few players they'd be willing to let go, that we'd want any way............. Birmingham on the other hand have a big squad including 8 potential strikers i.e. Bent, Phillips, McFadden, O'Connor, Jerome, McSheffery, Qunicy Owusu-Abeiye, Aydilek......... perhaps they would be willing to let one come here on loan e.g. McSheffery, I'd be happy with him plus £800k.
I think your think your being optimistic! McSheffery cost 4m quid and is one of the best players in this league. He'll be on a fortune in wages. Tongue only cost 1.5m and was part of a relatively successful sheff utd side for 8 years. Plus he had an extended contract. Player plus money totalling 1m is the best we can hope for and personally I think thats his worth when you take into account recent performances and length of contract.
RE: Dissapointed if we only get £500k for him..... if the blues are interested price will hopefully Unfortunately, I think Brian has chosen the Blunts over the other club (presumably Brum) which is his right if we have agreed fees with both clubs (begs the question why we agreed with the Blunts if a better deal was possible elsewhere - SU should have at least been made to match the Brum bid). You can understand the choice in one way - he's more likely to play regularly for Sheffield and won't have to relocate, even though Birmingham would offer a higher level of football and likely promotion to the Prem. There are so many questions to be answered..........I just suspect the statement will create more!
£10million is what started the problem............... two TV appearances and suddenly he's worth all that-well not really-any Premiership scout watching us this season would have been hard pressed to spot the "Premiership" midfielder
That £10million statement by Cryne
Crackers. Was only ever going to cause grief. From Howard by demanding a salary to reflect it, or from the fansif welet him go for owt less.

I've never thought he was worth that And to be fair, neither did Mr Cryne I would think - he was comparing Howard with Michael Tonge tec, but as you say, bringing thoughts like that into the public domain - can only end in tears.
Every other club can get top money for its players - not us.

Thing is, I think Cryne meant that more as a compliment to Brian rather than trying to price him out of the market.
I think you're right MDG Cryne wouldn't deliberatly set out to stop himself from pocketing a couple of million but I think his statement of the £10m did raise everyones expectations, brians of his potential earnings, ours in respect to what we'd get for him if he went. It was a mistake to make it and it has spiralled out of control completly which shows just how hard the job of chairman/spokesman is and why we need someone in that role with experience.
Glenn Whelan went to Stoke for £500k.. ..he was out of contract at the end of the season (just like Howard). He didn't score goals like Howard did but the deedar's rated him.
