We've just had our best 4 game run of the league season - 2 conceded in 4. 1 a penalty so that doesn't really count. Small positive I s'pse.
To be fair for the amount of pressure that we invited on ourselves on Saturday the back four were very solid. Just need to sort out the other 6 players now..
Like trying to plug a leaking dam wi thi finger. Or summat. Personally think that a midfield including Bailey, Hourihane, Scowen will help solve a lot of ills. That gives us a ball winner, a passer and a creative type.
Thought Danny had gone back before Christmas to try and tighten the defence, and it has, but it has also taken away from us attacking wise. Hard to get that balance.
Sod's Law. Earlier in the season, we were scoring a fair number of goals, but conceded plenty, too. Now the defence has tightened up, we're not scoring as freely. Bit of a bugger, as William Wordsworth may have said.
We have 5 decent centre half's. All of which are prone to mistakes. I'd say of the 5, Nyatanga has made the most costly errors yet he's probably been our most consistent performer over the last 2 months. The major flaw is that there's no cover from the midfield. There was against Yeovil and we kept a clean sheet. Okay people will keep eluding to the fact that they're bottom of the league and had 10 men for an hour but you can only beat what's in front of you.
This season has come in phases. We started off gung ho, looked like scoring at any opportunity but also ready to concede at the same time. Then we lost a bit of our edge (Cole/Hourihane out of form & Winnall's injury) and we focused on not conceding many. We're still doing that. What will come next is a balance and we'll start winning again with a team of young lads who will just get better and better. That might be next season but it'll come.
