defraging your pc

    how long does this take? been going for 3 1/2hrs now

    My dad does it. If i remember right.. it took no longer than 2 hours on our Computer

    It all depends on when you last did it and how big your memory is i think

    Start it in SAFE MODE, then do the defrag.

    I'm betting yours keeps restarting the defrag cos of stuff running.

    Safe Mode. While it's booting, tap the F8 key.

    Takes mine about 30-45 mins with 80Gb od stuff on it. I do it monthly.

    wasn'y doing it in safe mode

    thanks for the f8 tip. faffed about in safe mode when getting rid of a virus and i dint know it was that easy to put it in.

    nowt else is running apart from this query i've just posted.

    1st time defragged in 4 years. 320ram

    Safe mode is the best way, start it & go & watch telly for a while or somert!

    You're better off using something like Diskeeper, the Windows one isn't so hot.

    It depends on when you last defragged and if you have any programmes running in the background. Make sure your anti-virus scanner etc are not running.
