Been to my local dentist this week for a filling, he didnt drill anything or pump filler in as usual, just put a electronic machine in and when it beeped it was done..

Problem is i had no pain before it was filled but now it hurts!!

Whats my recourse if i go back ? Would i need to pay again for him to fix it?

I would have thought if you now have pain caused by his work then, as with any other service not fit for purpose, he should perform a repair for free.

Having had loads of work done in the past 12 months at Leeds Dental Hospital using latest methods the filling stuff used now only needs curing which is what the infrared 'gun' does. To get the decay out though they still have to drill.

    Go back, complain

Alityke was right - the beeping machine was almost certainly a curing light used to set the filling.
If it was done on the NHS then you won't have to pay again. Normally if it was done privately then you still shouldn't have to pay again either but I can't say for certain without knowing what was done and why it's hurting.

It way well just settle. Things like chemical irritation from the adhesives used to stick fillings down, or heat from the curing light can cause a short-lived inflammatory response in the nerve of the tooth, making it painful for a few days after but I would certainly contact the practice and ask that the dentist take another look.

if there is a problem with the filling you won't have to pay again. Under the payment structure of the NHS you pay a fixed fee to correct the problem. If it is still hurting you can get it looked at without paying again. And they should re-do the filling if it isn't done correctly. My dentist had to do my filling that fell out twice last year. Didn't have to pay extra.
