****ing dentists. The wife's in agony with an abscess and her dentist has refused to see her because she hasn't been to them in the last 2 years. We phoned NHS 111 2 hours ago and are still waiting for an emergency dentist to phone back. A GP doesn't refuse to see someone if they've not been for the last 2 years, so how come dentists can get away with it.

A dentist isn't the NHS though, unlike your doctor who is. They're businesses who (some) agree to take on a certain amount of NHS patients/ customers.

If your no longer on their books, then it's 111 as you've done.

Try the one down Racecommon Road in town (near KwikFit). They usually give you an emergency appt fairly swiftly, even if you haven't been been with them before. Can't remember the number off the top of my head.

With an abscess a dentist will give the patient the same treatment as a doctor - a prescription for an antibiotic.

Search via postcode here and check for those with Emergency services by clicking on 'Narrow Search' near top of screen and ticking the Urgent care dental slots box:

Actually, having tried that - there's none within 25 miles of Barnsley with emergency appointments (if it's up to date and correct)

Thanks to everyone who made suggestions. We finally managed to get an appointment at the Flying Scotsman Health Centre, Doncaster. Her dentist on School Street, Darfield is a disgrace to the profession. They couldn't give a toss and turned away a woman who was literally crying in pain. They also blatantly lied and told us they couldn't take her back on their books while April. We looked on NHS Choices and they ARE taking on patients at the moment.

But you got the bottle removed in the end, so it's all good mate. Just don't do it again.
