How many Barnsley managers have moved on from personal choice, ala Danny Wilson, as opposed to sackings (by mutual consent or otherwise)?

Alan Clarke (1st time) left to be manager of Leeds
Viv Anderson left to be Brian Robson's number 2 at Middlesbrough
And, like you said, Danny Wilson left to be manager of Wednesday.

All the rest through the 80s, 90s and 00s were sacked. Was Jim Iley sacked or did he leave for another club? I don't know about the managers before this.

You'll have to explain that one to me

Before my time. Soccerbase and Wikipedia only list his time at Barnsley.

    "from personal choice"

Was the job that bad back then, too?

Johnny Steele never left Barnsley, bless him.</p>

He was &quot;shunted upstairs&quot; and made General Manager, then kept coming back when his successors failed.
