Easily my favourite thing on telly.

Wish I hadn't bothered watching the Making of Derek though that followed tonight's episode. It reminded me that Ricky Gervais is Derek's creator, which I had hitherto managed to forget about no little thanks to the magnitude of Gervais' magnificent performance. He's still a **** though.

Anyone with a modicum of intelligence recognises what a thoughtful writer Ricky Gervais is. Unfortunately, the Facebook generation prefer to ignore that, object and 'share this if you think he's a dick'

The highlight of the tv week for me too - waiting for someone to upload it for us so we can watch it tomorrow night. Very well written. I just cringe when the sex-maniac comes on though, whereas I absolutely love Karl Pilkington's character. Hope they do another series when this one's over.

I didn't think I would but I am really enjoying it too. I've got a thing for the woman who runs the home (am I the only one).

I was going to say he'd got a rival for that particular urine soaked Goddess! It's probably down to a fear of growing old and dying alone. I've got my eye on her chavvy little protege, that one will last longer. :)

    I loved the office.

    Thought extras was ok.

The one with the chap out of willow...a bit crap.

Derek is, in my view, utter utter cack.

Really like Ricky gervais and Steve merchant but I don't find Derek funny and in fact I find it quite insulting and his acting is atrocious.

I find myself agreeing with everything you write on here and in this case it is no different. I think it is utter dog **** and I cant think of anything else to say about it to be honest.

after The Office, Gervais would be nothing without the excellent Karl Pilkington. Even then Gervais ruined Idiot Abroad by adding Warwick Davies.

I love derek. I'm not sure whether I see it as a comedy or not though. Some parts are hilarious but some parts are really sad too and others make you think and are really touching.

Karl Pilkington is perfect in the role of Dougie and I think that works even better if you've seen an idiot abroad.
I don't usually rate Ricky Gervais, didn't like the office or extras but I think his acting in Derek is top notch. It's obviously not oscar worthy but then it isn't supposed to be, its just far enough away from Ricky Gervais to work.

And I'll take vicky tar. Proper mucky

Unusually for me I agree with every word you've written ;-) (having deleted the Vicky Tar bit!). The episode with the money-grabbing daughter and the ring was really, really sad - very well written and brilliant acting. As you say, you don't know whether to laugh or cry at times.

Doesn't work for me, and doesn't seem to be going anywhere either.

I agree that Gervais has been using Pilkington to arrest his create decline as the funniest two shows he's done since The Office have been The Ricky Gervais Show and An Idiot Abroad and the only thing Gervais did in those was laugh at and bully the actual funnyman Karl.
