'Came up through the junior ranks at Oakwell and signed a new contract last term keeping him in Yorkshire until June 2007. Rated as one of the most promising midfielders in the squad, Nicky really made the breakthrough to the first team last season going on to start 35 matches and establishing himself as a REAL STAR in the making for the Reds and will be looking to continue his impressive development this term.' fair enough write up Real star? No, but he's been very much part of the team for the last season or so. Can't imagine the program notes are going to say "Nicky Wroe plays a lot of games for such a young lad but really he's crap."
RE: fair enough write up I was sort of commenting on the way that players are described in programmes (as you touch on), as well as sort of questioning what it says!
RE: fair enough write up How unpleasant - despite being true - would it be if the write-ups were as follows: Nicky Wroe: Lightweight and unable to impose himself on a game, Nicky is only in the team because of Barnsley's financial state. Barry Conlon: At his 8th club already, Barry has all the attributes of a lamp-post. Daniel Nardiello: Like Chris Lumsdon before him, Daniel decided to stop caring once he'd signed a permanent deal. etc. It might be true, but wouldn't we be livid to read such reports about our own players in the opposition's match programme?
