We met a group in a pub after the match. We congratulated them and all had a drink for an hour or so until we set off home. Were going down to Cardiff in a mini bus to stay as their guests in May. They are just one of many groups of Cardiff fans that we met yesterday. All of which were decent football fans. Yes they have some nutters but so does every club. A bit of troubles nowt we havent seen before so why all the fuss about it?
Good to hear that. personally never had any bother with the Welsh full stop. Good bunch overall ive found. Sad there is always a minority wherever you go.
I'm pleased you had a good experience But the majority of us didn't. On the walk from coach to stadium we faced nothing but aggravation from EVERY Cardiff group that passed us. I have been watching football 35 years and been to many hostile places, but nothing quite as antagonistic and threatening as that. And too many decent people on here are saying the same thing. Your good experience sounds like the one I had with Millwall fans 15 years ago. The difference being I accept that the experience was a fortunate one-off; we were very, very lucky enough to come across a decent group like you did.
I've seen it much rougher at ....... Portsmouth, Millwall, Spurs, West Ham, Middlesbrough and Liverpool down the years.Yesterday's events, based on my own sightings, pale into insignificance at what i saw at these grounds whilst watching Barnsley.
It was literally every group that passed us between coach and turnstiles. The baying mobs our coach passed on the approach to the stadium and above us on the walkway were merely the 'welcoming' parties. It was a relief to get among the 'red', but then there was verbal from every pocket of blue that were going in the opposite direction despite being vastly outnumbered. You try to say we were the same (yeah right!) but under that provocation there would have been a bloodbath if the opposing supporters had been from countless other clubs rather than Barnsley.
Yeh, even Burnley But that was the late 70's mate...... remember how that was! I do, and i was with you. Even Oxford was frightening in those days....... Now that did take off!
No problems at all I was with my younger brother and the kids, walked through all the Cardiff lot outside The Greyhound and no problems at all. We had a few looks but nothing that a stare straight back didn't sort out....I just put the looks down to my taste in retro 80's casual lacoste, pringle and adidas and my brothers love of all things Stone Island and Paul Shark.....and the Barnsley badges ! Talking to a few Cardiff fans on the tube after the game....no worries....gracious in defeat we were.
RE: The majority I encountered were morons Worst of the day were the one's sat near us Barnsley 'supporters' saying how crap we had been first half, F*ck after every word and screaming that Davey should bring Nardie on. One of em was so p1ssed he could hardly stand and even though he was 5 yrds from his mates and his seat had to get a steward to tell him where to sit when he came back from the bog....they were the one's closest to getting thumped yesterday. When my brother told one of em perhaps he should actually support the team he came up all big and full of himself......asking if we actually knew what we were on about and did we watch Barnsley....err being watching em longer than you've been born son !!! If he'd not been so pathetic it would have been worth planting one on him at the final whistle.
