We conceded 2 from headers this week. On both occasions Moore and Souza were woefully out of positioning. its no good being able to head the ball if you cant get in position to intercept it. Both players are abysmal at actually reading what is happening and are getting caught out of position time and time again. Hassel was as much to blame for 1st and El Haimour for 2nd but it is surely down to the centre halves to sort out who is following and marking the forwards. We cannot afford to keep on giving stupid goals away, but I fear that is just what will happen if we carry on playing these 2.
Souza was just watching the striker , never tried to mark him and that left Steele no other option , than to try and get to the ball first. The striker was totally unmarked, not a reds player within 5 yards of him, same with Phillips for first goal.
Deffo agree about Phillip's goal, thought the marking was shocking, he managed to slip loose everytime they came forward. Except from the odd occasion when 3 of em followed him, leaving O'Connor to roam free.
Thought it was all round bad defending for both. Nowhere near tight enough to stop the cross and then nowhere near the men in the box. Hassell should have been picking Phillips up from what I saw. The other goal was either Moore or Souza. I agree about the CB's though. We are in trouble if we stick with those two all season. We will be letting 2 goals + in every game. Souza is slow enough but Moore is statuesqe in his movement. We desperately need a CB (with a bit of pace) and a LB (with a left foot).
I like Souza when he's with Foster, Moore is 2 miles 2 slow. And he don't stay on his feet for too long, HMS titanic my mate calls him
HMS Titanic is appropriate. Somebody should blow a horn when he starts to turn. Souza is the one I would stick with too, alongside Foster. But I would like to see Foster and a new CB, with the other 2, and Atkinson, as back up.
Just dont see him bringing in another CB, becuase he's obviously confident in the 3 main ones we have now, cos he brought moore in for competition for places.
