Interesting piece online with the Chronicle, where he mentions that Honder’ and Davies are not performing at U23s level.

Might explain a few things…. Hondermarck should have the desire to prove himself after he’s sniffed 1st team action. And Davies pretty much needs to do something, or he’ll become the forgotten man of football very quickly.

I think Christie-Davies is already in the forgotten man territory. Just had a look at his wiki profile, and he's 24 years old and only made 6 first team appearances in Slovakia.

With Hondermarck, I'd sooner judge him on what he's done for the first team. He's been hard done by in my opinion to find himself out of the first team squad, and probably struggled with the step back down. Hopefully just one bad game for him.

didn't schopp get slated for calling out players publicly?' whilst i agree that players should always put in 100% in any team you can understand Hondermarcks frustration at being left out when he's done well and a centre back is preferred' also i would like to see davies given a chance he should have certainly had the right schooling..

If I thought I'd had a good game at first team level - and I think most of us agree that Hondermarck did - and then been mysteriously dropped I can't say that I'd be particularly motivated to play well back in the U23s. It doesn't seem as if anybody's being picked based on performance at Championship level at the moment, so I doubt I'd have any confidence that a decent showing in a kids' match would make a blind bit of difference to my chances of being on the first team sheet.

Not much excuse for ICD though.

Professional footballers should be striving to play their best in every match. Obviously you'd be disappointed to miss out if you've performed well, but did Phil Foden sulk when he wasn't picked for Man City first team despite his talent or did he get on with it and play his best?

The clubs got the appearance of failure from top to bottom at the moment. Doesn’t sound like a happy place to work at the moment.

I don’t know - Devaney’s a decent bloke tbf. There’s a lot worse folk out there to be coached by in the U23s.

I was surprised at the lack of Hondermarck’s involvement recently. But you’d hope he’d use that taste of it to push himself and fight for it.

Having said that - there’s obviously reasons why it hasn’t worked for him so far in football, and maybe this is it.

Interesting for Devaney to mention it - gives a bit of insight really.

Maybe Devaney wants a pay off. He hardly speaks publicly then bushka. As the 5hits hitting the fan he speaks publicly. He's using Hondermarck and ICD as a smokescreen for wanting out.

Very rarely do you get a chance without showing some justification for it. The fact that Davies has not made it yet suggests that, in the context of how our coaches nurture talent, he hasn't emerged as a first team prospect. This may speak to how we develop talent as much as his performance - but we have had some success at bringing talent through previously.
