To fire us to safety. Jacob looked good in his deeper role last night, pulling the strings playing it simple controlling the tempo finding his man keeping us in possession with his fantastic range of passes and getting in advanced positions once we get the ball forward . Paddy in a free role behind the striker is always going to strike fear into any opponent, playing with one up front and a tad narrower in the midfield area maybe well worth it to give him the freedom to do what he dose best. Last night we played a formation to suit the squad of players we've got at our disposal, and we controlled the game with it, wile looking negative on paper with just one striker it was the most dangerous we've looked in months, wile still looking solid at the back, every player looked at ease with the ball and seemed to know what they where doing with it once they'd got it, we could be on to a winner here kids
Re: Diamond Formation with Jacob Mellis & Paddy McCourt could be this seasons forma Good to hear Nightmare, good to hear. Mellis cannot become a bad player overnight, so it was always going to be a case of using him where he is best suited. Common sense really?
Re: Diamond Formation with Jacob Mellis & Paddy McCourt could be this seasons forma I think the key to our performance last night was confidence. We have got some players with great ability in our squad but haven't been up to it all season. Short passes or over hit passes. Not taking players on and things like that are all down to being confident. Last night it looked like Micky gave them the boost they all needed. I honestly think flicker did lose the dressing room. I was abit suprised to see mellis line up in the middle with Perkins. And was abit worried but he was excellent. Couldn't pick fault with anyone last night.
Re: Diamond Formation with Jacob Mellis & Paddy McCourt could be this seasons forma Listening to Mellon, Flicker didnt lose the dressing room - it's probably an overused phrase for when managers just cant get the team to win and they get stuck in a rut and are under pressure to win. Once the manager leaves that pressure goes and they're back to having nothing to lose and can go out and play freely.
Re: Diamond Formation with Jacob Mellis & Paddy McCourt could be this seasons forma it's a bit like when a team gets relegated. Always nailed on to win the next game.
Re: Diamond Formation with Jacob Mellis & Paddy McCourt could be this seasons forma We played a narrow diamond with the width provided by the full backs second half versus Birmingham, although we obviously had two forwards rather than the one plus McCourt last night. We have tried the diamond before, and its problem is the lack of width high up the field. It's possible that the change of formation simply caught Brighton cold, and we were able to build up a two goal lead before they began to cope.
Re: Diamond Formation with Jacob Mellis & Paddy McCourt could be this seasons forma Good read, that, Nightmare. I see we got two corners; did we make them whipped-in and dangerous or are we still looping them over?
Diamond Formation with Jacob Mellis & Paddy McCourt could be this seasons f... Flicker set many players back, through his persistence with 4-4-2 and trying to shoehorn the wrong players into it. The middle three of Perkins, Kelvin and Mellis dominated almost every team last year. They don't turn into bad players overnight. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
Re: Diamond Formation with Jacob Mellis & Paddy McCourt could be this seasons f... Perkins hasn't turned in to a bad player overnigh. It's a gradual process. 0 goals. 0 assists.
