CRICKET legend Harold 'Dickie' Bird MBE has spoken of his pride at seeing his hometown club reach Saturday's Coca Cola League One Play Off Final against Swansea City at the Millennium Stadium. Speaking exclusively to www.barnsleyfc.co.uk after collecting his tickets for the big match from Oakwell, 'Dickie' said: "I am really looking forward to supporting the club I have loved for 67 years at the Millennium Stadium on Saturday. I have been hooked since by father took me to stand on the Spoin Kop almost 70 years ago.</p> "I actually signed for Barnsley as an amateur when I first left school. I remember signing the old white amateur forms with manager Angus Seed but in the end I stuck with cricket. I have wonderful memories of following this club through its up and downs through the years.</p> "Saturday's Play Off Final is a special day for this football club and I am very pleased for the supporters, who will get a great day out in Cardiff to enjoy. Our supporters deserve that and - fingers crossed - they deserve to be watching the likes of West Brom, Birmingham City, Leeds United, Sunderland and Crystal Palace here at Oakwell next season. This place is buzzing and I am sure that will be even better if we can get the right result in Cardiff.</p> "Getting to the Play Offs means a lot to this club and to this town. It has been a lean few years at Oakwell and I think every support will just want us to get out of this league. I will have to get my season ticket early for next season if we beat Swansea at the weekend.</p> <span>"The whole town will benefit from promotion back to the Championship. People will start talking about Barnsley Football Club again".</span></p><span> PLAY OFF BUILD UP</p> <span style="COLOR: red"><span style="COLOR: red">ANTONY KAY</span></span></p> <b /></p> <span style="COLOR: red"><span style="COLOR: red">BOBBY HASSELL</span></span></p> <b /></p> <span style="COLOR: red"><span style="COLOR: red">PAUL REID</span></span></p> <b /></p> <span style="COLOR: red"><span style="COLOR: red">PAUL HECKINGBOTTOM</span></span></p> <b /></p> <span style="COLOR: red"><span style="COLOR: red">BRIAN HOWARD</span></span></p> <b /></p> <span style="COLOR: red"><span style="COLOR: red">PAUL HAYES</span></span></p> <b /></p> <span style="COLOR: red"><span style="COLOR: red">DANIEL NARDIELLO</span></span></p></span>
Good man I find the stick he gets off some of our 'supporters' an absolute disgrace. He's always been a fan, doesn't shy away from it, and has been down regularly when he's been able to.
bet the Barsteward isnt even paying for his own ticket. with sheffield united not having a match its nice of him to put us first for a change.
**** off He's always been a Barnsley fan, stop being so pathetic. I've seen him numerous times at Oakwell this season. Do you not realise that being a famous and well respected sporting legend that that sometimes means he's invited elsewhere and is seen at other events? It seriously p!sses me off when people question Dickie's loyalty to Barnsley.
RE: Good man, Yeah, Helpful NO! If what you say is true, why did he refuse to assist the club financially a couple of seasons ago When they really needed it, Eh?
RE: Good man, Yeah, Helpful NO! How much money has he got?! Cricket umpires get paid peanuts. Obviously he's quite wealthy through books etc but it's not like he's got millions to chuck about is it?
Why did I got to see Clevedon Town v some god awful team from Wurzel country instead of watching us in 3rd round of the fa cup - cos I was invited to by family. Christ give the man a break will you, he doesn't have to spend his life watching BFC and then justifying it.
I Don't Care.... how many invites he gets to certain things. i know if i was famous and in his position then i would NEVER go watch a local rival EVER. and DEFFO when we are playing on the god damn same day.
He'll have been to far more matches than a significant number of people going on Saturday !!! Oh but they're not famous though are they !
RE: I Don't Care.... Well I have and I've seen the reds play more than you have so I'm still a bigger fan than you are so ner ner ne ner ner. When you've grown some whiskers and seen a bit of life and your testicles have dropped, come back on here and you'll discuss it with a different perspective.
Dreamboy... Then why is it okay for you to talk more about Chris Taylor on here than you do about Barnsley FC? (blagger)
I was once in lift atHeadinlgey with him And he did nothing but Slag the Currnet owners of our club off, whilst singing the priases of the ex mayor!!! For that I will never hold a high opinion of him waht so ever
