Did anyone give in and go and see Gravity then?

    I went again. I thought I'd see what it was like in 3D. There were some good parts: George Clooney zipping about on that thing above your head and Sandra Bullock's face filling the entire room when you were inside the helmet with her, but there were some really annoying parts too. All the bits and pieces that were floating about came out in to the cinema in 3D and in my opinion just go in the way. Having a screwdriver or a cup just a few feet in front of me and obscuring the story didn't make it a better film.

    However, the big difference was that in 2D the backdrop of the earth was crystal clear, where as in 3D it was a bit fuzzy, not perfectly sharp. I thought the 2D version was better.

    I can see that. Certainly the shots of earth. But I did think the 3D gave a real sense of being in space, and the teardrop bit was special. Either way, whichever format, it's what cinema is made for.
